Location

The city of Kunshan lies between Shanghai and Suzhou in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta Region, one of the most developed areas in China. It is a national leader in economic growth and development, while also retaining a precious heritage of culture and the environment. Kunshan is less than a 20-minute train ride by high speed rail to Shanghai and Suzhou.

A free shuttle bus runs regularly between campus and downtown Kunshan, offering students easy access to off campus dining, local shopping, parks and the train station.

Student Housing

Living on campus and bonding with others outside the classroom is a key component of student life on the Duke Kunshan campus. The residence hall has many team rooms for self- and group-study, a coffee bar, student lounges, Ping-Pong table room, a laundry room with washers and dryers.

Typical suites have a living room, four private single bedrooms (or one two-bed bedroomand two single bedrooms) and two bathrooms with showers. Students will have the opportunity to choose their room type and match themselves with onesuitemate/roommate.

Amenities in a suite include study desks, chairs, lamps, single beds (two single beds in double rooms), closets, TVs, kettles, waste baskets, cleaning tools, and drinking water faucet at the sink.

Duke Kunshan University’s international Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP) program combines a world-class faculty, cutting-edge research center, innovative curriculum and unparalleled career opportunities. Course Structure The four-semester, 16-course iMEP program is designed to capture the skills necessary for a new generation of environmental leaders. It is the first in the world to draw together the important core requirements in environmental management and public policy. These include economics, political science, sociology, history, law, statistics and environmental science. At the same time, the program will bring students pursuing a master’s degree from the Nicholas and Sanford schools to Duke Kunshan, further increasing diversity and networking opportunities in the iMEP program. Internships with a range of international organizations, NGOs, and corporations round out the opportunities available to iMEP students. Become a Global Environmental Policy Leader Students of the iMEP program emerge with the skills they need to forge evidence-based environmental policy solutions in the public and private sectors. Beginning in July each year and running through mid-May, the Master of Management Studies: Duke Kunshan University program is organized into multiple 6- and 2-week terms, with a total of 15 courses. All courses are conducted in English, and Mandarin proficiency is not needed to attend the MMS: Duke Kunshan program. The streamlined MMS: Duke Kunshan curriculum and course structure is designed to immerse you in business as quickly as possible, without sacrificing substance and quality. MMS: Duke Kunshan classes give you the tools, framework and vocabulary you need to enter the world of business with a solid foundation. Our extensive curriculum features quantitatively rigorous courses, as well as thought-provoking classes that challenge you to apply course material to real-world business. This combination of courses challenges students to apply their previous knowledge and strong business education background in order to analytically, creatively and intelligently find solutions to complex problems. Corporate visits involve on-site meetings with executives, discussing everything from entry-level employment opportunities to in-depth processes and challenges of specific industries and companies. Shanghai is conveniently accessible from Kunshan by high-speed train, so you'll have frequent opportunities to visit this city that is a popular destination for corporate headquarters of multinational companies. MMS: Duke Kunshan Program Admissions Criteria In order to apply for the MMS: Duke Kunshan program, at a minimum, you must have earned or expect to earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university by the time the program starts. Students from any academic background can apply. A typical MMS student has less than 2 years’ work experience. If you already have an MBA or equivalent, you are not eligible for the MMS: Duke Kunshan program. If you have more than 2 years of full-time, post-graduate work experience, please contact the admissions office to talk about how your unique situation fits our admissions criteria. All applications are evaluated holistically based on multiple criteria. Outlined below are the ways in which we evaluate the components of applications to determine if students fit our selection criteria. Academic Aptitude & Quantitative Proficiency The MMS: Duke Kunshan academic environment is rigorous, fast-paced and requires strong quantitative and analytical skills. We utilize standardized test scores, transcripts and any applicable work experience to ensure that our admitted students will be successful in the program. The Admissions Committee pays particular attention to the quantitative segment of your test score to ensure that you can handle the rigor of the program. There are no prerequisite courses for the program, but if you do not have a strong quantitative background, we recommend that you take courses such as statistics, calculus or finance. This will provide another measure of your quantitative ability. Professional Experience & Career Potential Our admissions criteria does not indicate a required minimum work experience; however, you should have no more than two years of full-time, post-graduate work experience. We evaluate paid and unpaid work engagements — including volunteer positions, part-time work, student clubs and activities, and internships — to provide insight into your initiative, experience working in a team environment, and other skills that would translate well into potential career paths after the MMS: Duke Kunshan program.
