The purpose of the programme is to provide you with a broad and fundamental knowledge in the field of physical chemistry, with an emphasis on the fields of surface and colloid chemistry, nanochemistry, and soft condensed matter. Students develop advanced laboratory skills, profound theoretical comprehension of fundamental mechanisms and good understanding of practical applications. Special emphasis is given to an unbroken line of understanding, from quantum mechanical description of atoms and molecules to complex supramolecular structures, as well as their industrial and biological applications.
All courses during the first year are compulsory, and provide you with a suitable base for future studies in these or related subjects, including a course in mathematical methods. In the second year you can to a large extent influence and plan your studies, with several different possibilities. It is mandatory to complete a Master's degree project, corresponding to at least 30 ECTS credits.
When you graduate from the programme you will be highly skilled in the fields mentioned, and also suitably prepared for PhD studies in the main subjects.
