Visual Arts

A Masters degree is an academic degree awarded to individuals who successfully denote a higher level of expertise. There are two main types of Masters - taught and research.

Visual arts courses often cover skills in aesthetic arts. However, there are many applied art forms included in visual arts courses. These programs can cover graphic design, fashion design, decorative art and industrial design. These can help students prepare for a position in a particular field.

Dealing with public universities is far from an optimal option. Private schools provide much better assistance in your distance learning experience. Several online university draws teachers and students at great distances from all over the world. This vastly increases the diversity in a distance learning classroom and produces challenging conversation among those from hugely divergent communities, regions, and distant cultures.

Education in the United Kingdom is a devolved matter with each of the countries of the United Kingdom having separate systems under different governments: the UK Government is responsible for England, and the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive are responsible for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively.

England is the largest of the four "home nations" that make up the United Kingdom. It is also the most populous of the four with almost 52 million inhabitants (roughly 84% of the total population of the UK).

Masters in Screen Studies

Birmingham City University Faculty of Art, Design and Media
Campus or Online Full time Part time 1 - 3 years September 2017 United Kingdom Birmingham + 1 more

MA Screen Studies plunges you deep into the latest debates around the function and importance of screen based media within a rapidly-changing media landscape. Drawing on a combination of film and television theory, the Screen Studies master’s degree at Birmingham School of Media, encourages you to actively participate in, and contribute to the development of ideas in the field and to the strong research culture of the school. This media theory geared master’s degree, available on-campus or by distance learning, gives you space to think about the ways in which audiences make sense of media, as well as the formal and aesthetic qualities of media texts, as a way into exploring your own practice or scholarly or media research interests. Convergence Culture The point of departure for MA Screen Studies is what Henry Jenkins famously described as ‘convergence culture.’ Increasingly, audiences watch television online, through mobile or tablet devices, and access movies through a range of platforms and formats, cinema being just one. The ability to make and broadcast video has begun to change the ways in which we understand the relationships between producers and consumers. Media convergence is about much more than technological change, and in this master’s degree you will explore new ways of thinking about production, distribution and consumption of screen-based media and our relationship to it. Key Facts The Screen Studies MA reflects the changing nature of the media industries and the need for postgraduate study to cross disciplinary boundaries. The master’s degree is a mix of theory and practice, determined by you. You will be actively involved in assessment design; you produce the work that you want to be assessed. The MA course is adaptable and designed to reflect your individual interests and needs. You'll be taught by a team of highly active academic researchers and media practitioners. [+]
