Each student will take taught credits from existing modules in the department, followed by a large project module. This project component of the MRes allows the student to develop and explore a deep understanding of their topic. The flexibility of the MRes allows students to develop their domain knowledge and research skills under the direct supervision of a member of staff. It is expected that the MRes could result in publications. Furthermore, it aims to equip students with the research skills needed for advanced mathematical research at doctoral level. The course is aimed specifically at those students looking to pursue PhD studies in the near future and therefore wish to develop a more coherent research interest before embarking on a full PhD. Teaching and assessment methods The taught modules are delivered by a variety of methods including lectures, problem classes, self-paced learning and directed reading.
