Masters 2017 in Houston USA. The graduate program in Psychology leads to the Master of Arts Degree. All aspects of the degree are guided by the suggested curricula of the American Psychological Association and developed by our faculty for optimum learning in the classroom, laboratory, and applied settings. The program is a vehicle for advanced study of human behavior. Course work is taken primarily in psychology, but with faculty permission appropriate course work in the behavioral sciences may be allowed. Applicants should have strong undergraduate preparation in the Behavioral Sciences; those without a strong course background in Psychology may be required to take additional undergraduate course work at UHCL. The MA in Psychology requires 36 hours with a thesis or project, or 39 hours with the internship. The internship option can be used by, for example, by students wishing to teach at the community college level, managing human services agencies or research studies, or working in student services. This program does not prepare students to be qualified as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Program Requirements The course requirements can be found in the second half of the Psychology MA catalog entry. Concentrations A master's degree in General Psychology can further prepare students for working in human or government services. This degree will also prepare students for jobs that require technical skills in behavioral research and statistics. Students can also meet requirements to teach psychology to undergraduates. Students have the option to specialize in their graduate degree with concentrations in: Applied Cognitive Psychology (Human Factors) Applied Social Issues Behavioral Neuroscience Admission: Applying to the Program Applicants must complete a university Application for Admission and forward it and all required fees and documents to the university Office of Admissions. The Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) degree program provides a flexible and high-quality graduate education that prepares students for careers in leadership and management in public service or nonprofit administration. The MPPA provides students with three specific track options in order to tailor the degree to specific student interests and/or needs. These tracks are: Generalist, Public Management, and Public Policy. The Generalist Track is a tailored mix of courses. The Public Management Track emphasizes the fundamentals of Public Administration. The Public Policy Track stresses the interdisciplinary nature of policy analysis. Degree Requirements MPPA students will choose one of three tracks for the MPPA degree: Generalist, Public Management, or Public Policy. Students are required to take 36 credit hours in the program. Thirty-three credit hours will be within the MPPA core and degree tracks. In addition, students must complete either a thesis or a professional report in order to fulfill the requirements for the MPPA degree program. Career Possibilities The MPPA degree will prepare graduates to become managers or analysts at all levels of government – local, state, federal, and international – and in domestic non-profit organizations or international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). In governments, graduates work as managers and analysts in executive agencies, as staff members for legislatures, and as court administrators.
