Deane School of Law at Hofstra University has a package of courses in American Litigation and Advocacy that are of particular interest to foreign law graduates who want comprehensive exposure to American approaches to litigation theory and techniques in a variety of lecture, simulation and practice settings. This program gives graduates of foreign law schools a significant exposure to U.S. laws and policy. Satisfactory completion of 27 credits is required. Three courses are required, Introduction to the U.S. Legal System (3 credits), Legal Methods for Foreign Lawyers (2 credits) and Professional Responsibility 2 credits). Five non-required survey courses designed just for LL.M. students are offered each year. These are condensations of courses that are offered in the first year of the J.D. program. Otherwise, students take courses from the rich J.D. curriculum. Students are also permitted to audit one course per semester. Students who excel in the LL.M. program may be considered for transfer to the J.D. program. Graduates of the program may qualify to take the New York bar examination. [+]

Touro’s LL.M. program for foreign law graduates is the third oldest such program in the New York City metropolitan area, after those of Columbia and New York University. It is a 27-credit program designed to provide grounding in United States jurisprudence, law, and procedure. The program is intended to serve the needs of two distinct groups: foreign-qualified lawyers living in the U.S. who hope to resume here the legal careers they began abroad. attorneys coming from abroad who seek familiarity with U.S. law and legal institutions, so they may use that knowledge in their foreign legal careers. The program, which emphasizes the development of analytical skills, was the first in the country to offer a research and writing course designed exclusively for foreign lawyers as well as a course devoted specifically to the U.S. legal system. Distinctive features of the program include: Optional survey courses on basic U.S. legal subjects: Constitutional Law, Property, Contracts, Civil Procedure and Torts. In these courses, attention is devoted to major cases, but most readings are commentaries on the law. Instead of the traditional J.D. format, in which students read cases and discuss them in class, the survey courses are taught in lecture format. These subjects are tested on the New York bar exam. Survey courses can be valuable for students who want a quick familiarity with a particular area of U.S. law. The opportunity to “audit” one course per semester. Auditing allows a student to attend a course at no cost and to even take the final exam, but the course does not count toward the credits needed for graduation. Auditing one course per semester over three semesters can increase learning opportunities by about 30%, at no additional cost. Students who excel in the LL.M. program may be considered for transfer to the J.D. program. Tuition is charged on a per-credit basis. Program Specifics Two of three required courses, Introduction to the U.S. Legal System (3 credits) and the LL.M. Tutorial (2 credits), are offered on 14 Sundays. Two two-credit survey courses are generally offered on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. Each credit is equivalent to one hour of class per week in a 14-week semester. Students are expected to study up to three hours for each hour of class. The minimum number of credits per semester for part-time students is seven. This means that part-time students can begin their studies with the two required courses on Sundays plus one of the survey courses on a Tuesday or Thursday evening. Master of Architecture II THE MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE II PROGRAM WILL EXPAND TO TWO STUDIOS FOR THE 2013-2014 ACADEMIC YEAR. In addition to the existing curriculum of Advanced Design Studio work that culminates in a design-research Thesis project, the Criticism, History and Theory concentration will offer a intensive one-year immersion in the criticism, history and theory of architecture. Emphasis is placed on approaches to architectural analysis and history, the role and contemporary relevance of theory, and the relations between theory and design. Seminars will offer students preparation for careers in journalism, teaching, and eventual doctoral studies, with a broad understanding of the cultural conditions of architectural production and a concentration on excellence in writing. Analysis studios provide a deep insight into the formal and programmatic diversity of historical and contemporary architecture, the process of design, and potential avenues for new approaches towards theory and practice. A required emphasis in Urbanism or Technologies of Representation allows for deeper investigation into specific areas of historical or contemporary architectural theory. The Master of Architecture II post-professional degree program was launched in 2009 to extend the vision and intellectual rigor of the undergraduate program and allow a further development of the school’s preeminent position in the education of architects. It is open to applicants with a first professional degree in architecture (Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture I) from a program accredited by the NAAB or equivalent accrediting agency in another country. The program serves professionals who wish to continue in practice with higher research and design skills in those areas in which the program offers specialization. It additionally prepares those with first professional degrees who wish to develop parallel careers in teaching and/or continue to engage in research toward an appropriate Ph.D. degree at another institution. Applicants are required to complete a minimum of one year of work experience after obtaining their first professional degree before applying to the program.

The design studio serves as a major component of the program. Seminars address issues particular to the concentrations as well as other topics making use of the interdisciplinary resources offered by The Cooper Union. Concentrations in one or a combination of three areas are offered: theory, history and criticism of architecture, urban studies and technologies. Prospective students will declare their area(s) of concentration during the application process.
 Theory, History and Criticism of Architecture Considers questions concerning the theory and criticism of modernism and contemporary architecture, the philosophy and aesthetics of architecture, the mediatization of architecture and broader cultural and historical issues through the critical readings of texts, the development of critical projects and a written thesis. Urban Studies Addresses issues central to the design, planning and development of cities and regions, including study of the morphological, social and cultural effects of globalization; the survival of local urban cultures; redevelopment of central cities, suburbs and exurbs; and issues specific to NewYork and comparative cities. Technologies Focuses on technological issues of architectural design, representation, planning and production, such as the impact of new information technologies, new materials and manufacturing processes; hardware and software development; mapping and modeling techniques; and the technologies of fabrication as they influence new design strategies. This area focuses as well on the economic, ethical and technological dimensions and design potentialities of sustainability and developments in new structural systems, materials and building assemblies. Degree Requirements: Master of Architecture II All applicants to the Master of Architecture II program must have previously obtained a bachelor of architecture or a master of architecture first professional degree from a school accredited by the NAAB or equivalent accrediting agency in another country. The program is structured to be completed in two full-time consecutive semesters with a final thesis semester during the subsequent summer session. Final thesis presentations will take place during the first week of the fall semester following the student’s year of study. Graduate students are expected to complete all 30 credits of the M.Arch II degree requirements in full-time continuous resident study at The Cooper Union. Thesis In April of the spring semester prior to advancing to Arch 413 Thesis, each student will be required to present an elaboration of his or her thesis topic and program for review and acceptance by the faculty. Final thesis presentations will be made during the first week of fall semester following the student’s year of study. Seminars Out of Concentration It is recommended that students register for courses originating in the graduate program (Arch 482, Arch 483 and Arch 485) to satisfy their out-of-concentration seminar requirements. Graduate courses in the Albert Nerken School of Engineering as well as select upper level undergraduate elective courses could be made available to Master of Architecture II students with prior permission from the student’s academic adviser and the individual course instructor. The Master’s in Professional Studies, Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management, is the only program of its kind. A think tank of innovative leadership, the program provides advanced education for emerging executives, fostering both creative and analytical business skills. Students obtain a global perspective through field studies in multiple overseas markets. Through academic and experiential learning and an Executive Mentor program, the curriculum facilitates the development of empathic leaders with the objective of shepherding brands that are global corporate citizens with products that delight and inspire the consumer.This two-year program just reached a major milestone: its 10th anniversary. With 200 successful graduates, the program is designed for individuals working in cosmetics, fragrances, and beauty-related areas who have been recommended by their employers because of their strong management potential.The capstone project (final thesis) reflects the partnership between industry and the classroom. Working in teams, graduating students develop an innovative, in-depth, interdisciplinary approach to a strategic topic determined by the faculty. They present their results to a panel of faculty and industry experts at an industry-sponsored event.
