The American Legal Studies program should appeal to foreign law graduates who are encouraged to obtain legal training in U.S. law and practice in order to compete more effectively with U.S. law firms operating in foreign countries. The program helps to qualify a candidate for eligibility to sit for the New York State Bar Examination and to be admitted to practice law in New York. Foreign law graduates who seek U.S. law training in order to make themselves more attractive to U.S. law firms and corporations will also benefit from this degree program. The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University has a package of courses in American Litigation and Advocacy that are of particular interest to foreign law graduates who want comprehensive exposure to American approaches to litigation theory and techniques in a variety of lecture, simulation and practice settings. Hofstra Law is the Northeast region's base for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and the Hofstra faculty has extensive expertise in American litigation and advocacy. Degree Requirements The LL.M. program in American Legal Studies requires completion of 24 credits, which may be taken full time in one academic year or part time in two academic years. Full-time students must finish their LL.M. degree in two semesters and take 12 to 15 credits each semester. Master of Law (LL.M.) in U.S. Legal Studies

Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center
Campus Full time Part time 2 - 4 semesters January 2017 USA Central Islip + 1 more

This program gives graduates of foreign law schools a significant exposure to U.S. laws and policy. Satisfactory completion of 27 credits is required. Three courses are required, Introduction to the U.S. Legal System (3 credits), Legal Methods for Foreign Lawyers (2 credits) and Professional Responsibility 2 credits). Five non-required survey courses designed just for LL.M. students are offered each year. These are condensations of courses that are offered in the first year of the J.D. program. Otherwise, students take courses from the rich J.D. curriculum. Students are also permitted to audit one course per semester. Students who excel in the LL.M. program may be considered for transfer to the J.D. program. Graduates of the program may qualify to take the New York bar examination. [+]

Masters 2016/2017 in New York USA. Touro’s LL.M. program for foreign law graduates is the third oldest such program in the New York City metropolitan area, after those of Columbia and New York University. It is a 27-credit program designed to provide grounding in United States jurisprudence, law, and procedure. The program is intended to serve the needs of two distinct groups: foreign-qualified lawyers living in the U.S. who hope to resume here the legal careers they began abroad. attorneys coming from abroad who seek familiarity with U.S. law and legal institutions, so they may use that knowledge in their foreign legal careers. The program, which emphasizes the development of analytical skills, was the first in the country to offer a research and writing course designed exclusively for foreign lawyers as well as a course devoted specifically to the U.S. legal system. Distinctive features of the program include: Optional survey courses on basic U.S. legal subjects: Constitutional Law, Property, Contracts, Civil Procedure and Torts. In these courses, attention is devoted to major cases, but most readings are commentaries on the law. Instead of the traditional J.D. format, in which students read cases and discuss them in class, the survey courses are taught in lecture format. These subjects are tested on the New York bar exam. Survey courses can be valuable for students who want a quick familiarity with a particular area of U.S. law. The opportunity to “audit” one course per semester. Auditing allows a student to attend a course at no cost and to even take the final exam, but the course does not count toward the credits needed for graduation. Auditing one course per semester over three semesters can increase learning opportunities by about 30%, at no additional cost. Students who excel in the LL.M. program may be considered for transfer to the J.D. program. Tuition is charged on a per-credit basis. Program Specifics Two of three required courses, Introduction to the U.S. Legal System (3 credits) and the LL.M. Tutorial (2 credits), are offered on 14 Sundays. Two two-credit survey courses are generally offered on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. Each credit is equivalent to one hour of class per week in a 14-week semester. Students are expected to study up to three hours for each hour of class. The minimum number of credits per semester for part-time students is seven. This means that part-time students can begin their studies with the two required courses on Sundays plus one of the survey courses on a Tuesday or Thursday evening. The part-time program may extend through four semesters. Students attending full time can complete the program in as few as two semesters. International students (those on F-1 student visas) are required to take a full-time course load. Students who are permanent residents or U.S. citizens are eligible for Federal loans. Admissions This program is for students who hold a professional law degree from an educational institution outside of the United States. The educational institution must be accredited and the degree must satisfy the academic requirements for entry into the legal profession in the country where the institution is situated. Students admitted to the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in U.S. Legal Studies for foreign law graduates generally begin law school in the fall semester, after an orientation that starts in early August. Since they are not assigned to specific divisions, students may attend either full-time or part-time and select courses from the day and evening schedules. Tuition is charged by the semester-hour. Students must successfully complete the requirements for and be awarded an LL.M. degree within 24 months of matriculation. 24 out of the 27 credits required for the LL.M. degree must be physically completed at the campus of Touro Law Center in the United States. Masters 2016/2017 in New York USA. Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Public Affairs and Administration (PAA) The MPA at MCNY is committed to a standard of excellence in teaching in an urban environment that is manifested in the ability of students to critically integrate theory with their experiences in the field. Because our students represent the diversity and dynamic culture of the City of New York, teaching and learning must be geared towards ensuring that students are presently capable of contributing in a constructive way to the political, economic and social development of the communities in which they live and work and ultimately to the greater enhancement of the city as a whole. About this Program This unique, three-semester-long MPA can be completed in just one year. The program of study and practice has been designed specifically for working professionals with some related experience in a public agency, not-for-profit or profit-making setting, and provides the student with the skills necessary to enhance the organization's efficiency through applied learning. Each semester is 15 weeks long, and concentrates on an area essential to building leadership careers in public service. A dynamic faculty combined with field experience in New York City makes Metropolitan College of New York an ideal institution in which to embark on your career in public service. This accelerated program integrates the College's Purpose-Centered System of Education, which provides students with the opportunity to use the knowledge they gain in their studies to take positive action in the organization where they are employed. Students earn credit for these hours, thereby making it possible to work part-time or full-time while attending classes full-time. Course Offerings Within the semester, classes are divided into seminars called Dimensions of Learning, Action, and Assessment. They are: Purpose, Values and Ethics, Self and Others, Systems, and Skills. These represent the five dimensions of holistic, empowering performance. Students explore the theoretical background behind each seminar, which will help them master the Purpose for that semester. As a whole, the seminars are designed to help the students: Integrate theoretical material from the other four dimension classes. Plan and carry out an effective innovation or pilot program at the work site. Document their action and achievement in writing. Assess the results and perform strategic planning for the future. The three Purposes of the MPA are inter-related and lead to the completion of a Constructive Action (typically a thesis in more theoretical programs). An extensive research component is integrated into each semester's requirements. Graduate students are awarded the MPA upon the successful completion of 45 credits (15 credits per semester) and a grade point average of a 3.0. [-]

[+]

The Master of Architecture is a 110 credit 3 year first-professional degree program that aims to prepare future architects to provide leadership and vision in the construction of the physical environment, and to collaboratively draw upon and organize diverse professions and multiple technologies to expand the field of architectural design. Research is an integral part of the M.Arch course of study, from first-year courses in design, theory, history, media, and technology, to the final semester’s directed research project. The program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) and currently ranked #8 in the country by Design Intelligence. Our faculty members are recognized for their level of commitment to each student’s progress as well as their professional achievements. The faculty is comprised of published scholars, award-winning designers, funded researchers, and active professionals. Curriculum Studios in design and media, lecture courses and seminars in theory and history, and courses in structures and technology during the first three semesters of the M.Arch curriculum constitute the “core” of the program. The final four semesters, including a summer intensive term, offer distinct experiences. In the fourth semester, all students have the option to select from a range of studios taught by distinguished visiting professors. Students who have been awarded with advanced standing based on architectural study at the undergraduate level have the option of studying abroad at the University’s centers in Florence and London or at the University’s Fisher Center in New York City. In the summer of the second year, students can study at a summer intensive program in New York City or in one of our “Three Cities” global study programs. The design focus of the third year includes both our Integrative Studio, designed to synthesize knowledge garnered across the curriculum in a highly detailed building design, and a faculty directed research project defined and developed by the student in tandem with faculty advisors. A rich array of professional and history electives allows students to study specific topics in seminars and lecture courses. DIRECTED RESEARCH At Syracuse Architecture, the completion of a directed research project is required for award of the M.Arch degree. Students’ capstone experience in the M.Arch. degree embraces the complex multi-disciplinary nature of architectural projects in the 21st century by providing a framework for students to explore individual research + design interests around a series of topics supported by faculty expertise from across the university. Led by School of Architecture faculty, small groups of students working in these shared topic areas are given the opportunity to advance their work in the kinds of multi-disciplinary contexts and conversations that drive innovative practice today. Through the Directed Research experience, we seek to prepare students to seek, initiate, and lead these conversations upon graduation. Admissions The Master of Architecture is a first-professional program open to applicants with undergraduate degrees in any field. Students entering with degrees in architecture or environmental studies are eligible for up to one year of advanced standing in the program. Students in the M.Arch program are required to participate in full-time study and must enter the program during the fall semester. [-]
