Masters 2016/2017 in Cobb USA. Master of Social Work (MSW) The MSW program at KSU offers a full time program of study with a focus in clinical practice. The program of study consists of four academic semesters (two years). Students may choose to focus on one of two specialization areas: Children and Family Services and Behavioral Health Services. Students who select the Behavioral Health Services specialization can choose a sub-specialty in Addiction Treatment Services. The program consists of 60 credit hours with 48 of these credit hours spent in the classroom and 12 in supervised field practicum sites located throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area. It should be noted that the MSW Program does not offer Advanced Standing. Children and Family Services The Children and Family Services Specialization helps students to deepen their knowledge and practice skills in assessment and treatment services to children and their families. This specialization prepares students for careers focused on work with children and their families in agency settings such as: child welfare, juvenile justice, family agencies, residential treatment centers, group homes, youth outreach programs, youth prevention programs, and school settings. Behavioral Health Services The Behavioral Health Services Specialization trains students to make assessments and offer treatment services to individuals, families or groups for behavioral health problems or disorders. The specialization prepares students for careers in agency and individual practice settings such as: hospitals, in-and-out-patient treatment settings, family agencies, mental health centers, and psychiatric facilities among others. Substance Abuse Services Sub-Specialty The Addiction Treatment Services Services sub-specialty incorporates content about diverse client populations and multiple service settings as they relate to Addiction Treatment Services. The sub-specialty considers Addiction Treatment Services in the context of other psychosocial problems. Students who pursue this sub –specialty will be prepared to become Certified Addiction Counselors (CAC) with additional course work and supervised work experience. Clinical Field Practicum All MSW students are required to complete a clinical field practicum at an agency site approved by the Department. First year students in the full time program of study spend two full days in a field practicum setting and second year students in the full time program of study spend three full days in a field practicum setting.
