During the programme, you will gain extensive practice in translating into and out of Italian and two languages: English and one of the following: Mandarin Chinese French German Russian Spanish English is the language of instruction for non language-specific subjects, such as translation technology, translation methods and media accessibility. © Claudio Turci Requirements and Admission Procedures The course accepts a limited number of students each year. To be admitted, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1 or above), and take a preliminary test assessing your ability to translate between Italian and one language of your choice among those available. Learning Outcomes Thanks to the degree programme in Specialized Translation you will acquire the competences and develop the abilities needed to play an active role on the global language industry scene. In particular, you will become familiar with at least three lingua-cultures, Italian, English and your chosen third language. You will also be competent in several languages for special purposes and the associated knowledge domains, and with the technological aids, working methods and theoretical and ethical issues that are an integral part of the translation profession. You will be able to translate, adapt, revise and proof-read both written and multimedia/audiovisual texts; use state-of the- art tools and documentation resources for translation and associated tasks; critically evaluate translation quality. © Claudio Turci Programme Contents The programme includes 120 ECTS credits and lasts two years. In the first year you will take courses in translation technology and methods, media communication, translation for the publishing industry, and linguistics. In the second year you will take courses in specialized translation, culture and literature, and translation for media accessibility. You will be free to choose two electives, you will carry out an internship period, and you will prepare and defend a dissertation. All practice-oriented courses are taught in computer labs equipped with state-of-the-art Computer-Aided Translation software (CAT Tools). Career Opportunities As a graduate in Specialized Translation, you will be able to work as a translator for the publishing industry and/ or in one or more technical domains, or as a localizer, subtitler, multimedia translator, terminologist and language technology expert.
