The Interuniversity Master in Wireless Communications draws on the research experience of both the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) to offer a fresh, modern view of both current and future wireless communication technologies, addressing all those theoretical and practical aspects deemed relevant to the training of future researchers in the field. Objectives This master's programme aims to train the professionals who will develop the wireless communication systems of the future. Through a blend of theory and practice, the programme offers the necessary scientific and technological training to enable graduates to go on to pursue a career in research, whether in academia or the private sector. Who is it for? This master's programme is aimed at candidates with an engineering degree in the field of information and communication technologies seeking to hone their research skills in the field of wireless communications. Structure This research-oriented programme offers subjects covering both theory and practice. Students must complete 30 credits' worth of compulsory subjects, 20 credits' worth of optional subjects and a master's degree final project worth 10 credits. The master's programme can be completed in one year, if taken full-time, or two, if taken part-time. Part-time students will also be able to take complementary subjects from undergraduate engineering programmes or additional subjects from the master's programme. Ability to model, analyse and simulate random systems using tools from discrete and continuous stochastic processes, including aspects of information theory and queuing theory, and to formulate and solve optimization problems. Ability to analyse how network and transport protocols work in mobile networks, with regard to both radio and fixed networks. Ability to evaluate the features of mobile communication systems and networks using analytical, simulation and prototyping techniques. Ability to dimension high-performance networks from the base station sites and access points to the requisite radio spectrum and interconnection networks.
