The Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction (HCIM) provides the opportunity for advanced, systematic study of how to design, evaluate, and implement new information technologies that are understandable, usable, and appealing to a wide variety of people. The HCIM’s 30-credit degree may be completed full-time or part-time. Our core curriculum grounds students in the fundamentals of HCI perspectives and methodologies, while electives offer in-depth insight into specialized topics in the field. A required internship experience provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the HCI specialty area of their choice, and the choice of a thesis or capstone project allows students to demonstrate the skills they’ve acquired in the form best suited to their career goals. Admission Criteria: All applicants to the College of Information Studies must meet the minimum requirements set by the University of Maryland Graduate School. These are: Applicants must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree (or equivalent from a non-US institution) Applicants must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in all prior coursework Applicants must provide an official copy of a transcript for all their post-secondary work Additional admission requirements and information can be found on the HCIM Admissions webpage.
