Masters in Taxation. Students who wish to earn both the Master of Science in Accounting and Taxation degree (MSAT) and the Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) may apply to be admitted to the Dual MSAT/MBA degree program. Upon completion of all degree requirements, students will be awarded both the MSAT and MBA degrees. Students must apply to each program separately and meet the admission criteria for each program. Students then complete the degree requirements in the usual manner, with the exception of the number of electives and certain prerequisite overlap. A student who meets all the accounting prerequisites and is waived from the MBA core classes can complete the dual degree with 54 credit hours. Students who need to complete the accounting prerequisites and/or the MBA core classes will add them to their program. With more employers requesting that students have both financial and management background, the Dual MSAT/MBA degree provides an opportunity to earn both degrees in an efficient manner. Students can choose from online and in-class options and our rolling admissions process allows new students to enroll in the fall, spring, and summer terms. For students seeking certificate programs, our accounting certificate provides students who have an undergraduate degree in a field other than accounting the opportunity to take a series of essential undergraduate accounting courses. Students with a master’s degree in accounting, a JD degree, or who are current CPAs may take a series of graduate taxation courses in the Post-Graduate Taxation Certificate program. Master of Science in Accounting and Taxation – Financial/Assurance and Taxation Tracks The MSAT program is designed for students who seek to develop or advance a career in professional accounting or taxation in industry, public accounting, government, or not-for-profit organizations. The program of study meets the needs of students with undergraduate degrees in accounting who wish a fifth year of study to meet CPA licensing requirements, as well as those students with non-accounting or nonbusiness undergraduate degrees. This program offers a traditional course format in the evening that can be done at one’s own pace. In addition, many of the required classes are taught on-line. The MSAT program may be completed on a full- or part-time basis. The length of time to complete the program can be as little as 7 months and up to 5 years. Students may adjust their schedule based on their needs, however, students are generally expected to complete the degree within 5 years of starting the program. MSAT prerequisites Applicants must produce evidence of successful completion of two semesters of introductory accounting. Applicants without the introductory accounting courses will be required to take MBA 612 Accounting Concepts. In addition to the introductory accounting requirements, applicants must present evidence of the completion of the following basic accounting core courses that are traditionally taught as part of an undergraduate accounting major or equivalent: Financial Reporting Theory I-II-III Cost Management Federal Income Tax Concepts Auditing Concepts and Problems Students without the prerequisites will complete the courses as part of the program.
