Program Overview Euromasters prepares students for careers in business, administration, diplomacy, policy formulation and research. The program focuses on the comparative analysis of European polity, politics and policy. It is operated by the European American University Consortium (EAUC). This vast network of renowned universities gives students the unique opportunity to complete the program at a minimum of two and up to three different universities in Europe. Therefore, students do not simply pursue a European Studies degree, but experience Europe from the perspective of multiple countries, their (academic) cultures and languages. After the successful completion of all study requirements students are awarded a Joint Degree (MA in Contemporary European Studies) by the University of Bath on behalf of the EAUC. The Berlin Modules cover: Module I Comparative European Government Systematic comparison of liberal Western democracies concerning typologies of institutional settings, decisionmaking structures and the processes and various types of actors involved in modern mass democracies. Foreign and Security Policy in Europe Analysis of EU foreign policy, including the comparison of nation-state, supranational and inter-governmental approaches. Facets of Europeanization Elective chosen from the course catalogues of either Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin or Freie Universität Berlin. Module II Democracy and Democratization in Europe Investigation of social, economic and political changes as an outcome of democratization processes in Europe, by reflecting on examples from Western, Central and Eastern Europe. German Turkish Masters in Social Sciences - GeT MA GeT MA – the German Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences – is a unique, interdisciplinary, two-year masters program, which offers an excellent education in Europe’s two vibrant capitals: Berlin and Ankara. GeT MA is designed for students from all over the world who aim to pursue an international career in government agencies, NGOs, administration, journalism or research. The program is taught at the Middle East Technical University Ankara, Turkey and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Germany. GeT MA is part of the Ernst-Reuter-Initiative of the German and Turkish Foreign Ministries and is supported by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Program Overview The GeT Ma program is operated by two top universities: the Department of Social Sciences of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Graduate School of Social Sciences of the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. Students spend the first year of study at METU before coming to Berlin to finalize their studies. Graduates receive a Dual-Master of Arts in Social Sciences from both universities. Due to the international profile of GeT MA the language of instruction for courses is English. However, students take additional language classes in Turkish or German or a third language throughout the academic year in Ankara and may choose additional language courses in Berlin. The program helps students to enrich their academic experience by providing them with the opportunity to undertake a 3-month internship during the summer break before the second year. Thereby, students gain valuable insight into the professional life in Germany, Turkey or abroad. Curriculum GeT MA – the German Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences – is an interdisciplinary two-year program and offers academic teaching in a large variety of topics in the field of social sciences such as modernization and democratization, Europeanization and migration. Students deepen their empirical knowledge of political processes using Germany, Turkey and other regions of Europe as examples. Courses The courses of the study program offer a specialized perspective on current academic and political debates in these fields by using the examples of Turkey and Germany. Looking at the interplay of politics and society in German-Turkish relations as well as the European dimension of domestic and foreign politics in both countries will help students to cultivate the theoretical and methodical tools used in comparative politics, integration studies, and analyses of social and political change. Teaching and Research Teaching and research aim at integrating the perspectives of different sub-disciplines of social sciences. In addition to approaches from Political Science and Sociology, cultural and economic questions are also incorporated in the courses. This approach becomes manifest through the participation of highly qualified professors from different academic disciplines and backgrounds.
