This training simulates the path of industry, research of materials and trends, the study of new trends, designing & experimentation, technical development to final product and its communication. At the end of the training – conducted in collaboration with FENDI – students will be able to pursue a professional career in a creative studio, researching trends, developing products or office-office-style, and filling various professional roles that exist in the fashion industry, from designers to product manager as well as designing for their own business. The First Level Master’s degree in Accessory Design aims to instil organizational skills form both a design and operational prospective, essential characteristics for a professional figure able to effectively resolve issues within productive laboratories with understanding of the creative potential and the possibilities for implementation of projects. This course is fully recognized by the Italian Ministry as a Master’s of the first level with 60 credits (CFA/ECTS). Professional Opportunities This Master’s Course simulates the industry path, essential research for materials and trends, the development of new trends, market understanding, designing, technical developments and experimentations to the communication of the specialised product. Students at the end of the training will be able to pursue a professional career as part of a team in a creative fashion accessory design studio as a designer, researcher or involved in product development. To Whom This Master’s course is aimed at those who have successfully completed a recognised first degree, in a subject area relevant to this course, and wish to study with the aim to seriously focus on a career towards costume design: Students who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in Artistic / Design or a subject area linked to the Master’s Course: YES. Humanistic and Liberal Art degree students who have successfully completed an undergraduate course not linked to the specialist area of the Master’s: YES, if accepted by the Course Committee. Industry Professionals of the sector and students who have not completed a recognised undergraduate degree but private courses within the subject area of the course: YES, if accepted by the Course Committee and will only be eligible to receive a certificate of participation. Educational Approach Theoretical lessons, seminars, with experts in the field, practical workshops, guided tutorial support one to one and self-directed study, visits to industry production facilities, galleries and exhibitions make the course vibrant and relevant to the subject. Due to demand and a closed number of places available (to maintain the quality at this high level of study) to gain access to the course it is required the successful completion of an admission assessment, interview and presentation of a Portfolio. The Master’s program teaches you how to interpret, design and produce collections based on the long-standing, sophisticated Italian traditions of craftsmanship. You learn how to maintain artistic integrity in your work, while respecting the individual styles of other persons involved in the creative process. You must be able to effectively present your style and collaborate with different brands, manufacturers, artisans, and fashion designers. The Master will foster your personal and cultural growth, right through to the creation and professional presentation of an innovative accessories collection that reflects both the spirit of the season and the mind of a true professional designer. DESCRIPTION The master’s programme takes you through the various stages involved in the development of a genuine Footwear, Bags and Accessories collection. In the first part of the course, personal vision is strengthened through research into cultural aspects of History, Ethnics, Contemporary Arts and Trends. Your illustration, drawing techniques, computer graphics and styling skills will be characterised and personalised. You will learn how to master technical and creative skills such as Pattern Making, Prototyping, Computer Aided Design and Artisan Techniques as well as high standards of craftsmanship, innovative design and management and production of prototypes and technical specifications that can ultimately be used for production. Strategic and managerial skills will be practised through workshops and group sessions in which product development scenarios will be analysed and applied. You will work in team together with artisans, pattern cutters, art directors, and marketing and communication managers to develop products on different projects following a brief, giving you the possibility to broaden your competences as a team player. Essential issues of Collection Management will be applied such as Line Planning, Supply Chain, Production Standards, Budget Control, Pricing and Customer Relationships. You will learn how to set up a Fashion Business, write a business plan, find partners, and relate to press and clients. During the course we will tutor participation at international fashion talent competitions. At mid-term a seminar will be organised with fashion professionals. You will present projects and collections as a team and individually as a designer. Subsequently you will be taken through all the stages of analysing resources of inspiration, creating and producing patterns and prototypes and manage the creation of a 14 piece collection of shoes and accessories with the production of 5 items. Lastly, you will learn to enhance the image of a signature collection through a professional presentation, using an interdisciplinary approach that can include an event, the creation of a portfolio, a shooting, a look book and internet or video presentations. At the end of the master’s course you will present your thesis collection to professionals in the industry, talent scouts, buyers and the media – becoming a distinctive author capable of creating and realising a signature collection.
