Molecular biology is a field of study that deals with biology at a molecular level. A masters degree in molecular biology is a program that concerns itself with understanding the interactions between the various systems of a cell. A master in molecular biology studies macromolecules and the macromolecular mechanisms found in living things, such as the molecular nature of the gene and its mechanisms of gene replication, mutation, and expression.
The masters program in molecular biology entails a combination of both theoretical coursework as well as practical sessions with the overall aim being to have an all rounded master ready for the competitive job market. The program is mainly a hub for individuals who possess a special interest in the evolving challenges of microbiology and have a background in biological studies. The masters program is facilitated by the presence of up to date technologies as well as genetic maps of a number of different species that allow interactions at cellular and molecular levels in the area of molecular biology. The program comes in handy during such times as this when the form of scientific research being undertaken is geared towards deciphering the structure of macromolecular nucleic acids.
A master in molecular biology has a wide variety of careers to choose from such as molecular biology scientists, laboratory technicians, medical technologists, molecular technologists and clinical lab scientists. Enrolling for a masters degree in molecular biology, therefore, offers students the opportunity to utilize their interest in solving upcoming challenges in microbiology.
The Masters Programme in Genetics and Molecular Biology will provide students with the theoretical and practical preparation necessary to manage bio-molecular research (basic and applied to biomedicine). [+]

Master in Molecular Biology (M.Sc.)
This intensive programme leads graduates with a bachelor's degree to a Master of Science (M.Sc.) within 18 months. After a 3-year doctorate programme, graduates may acquire either the title Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Dr. rer. nat.. The semester structure has been removed, different subjects are integrated into a uniformly structured range of courses and it is possible to switch into the doctorate programme without a master's thesis, thus shortening the period of study. All courses are held in English. The programme is divided into two parts. During the first year, lectures, tutorials, seminars, methodical internships and individually tutored research projects take place within 36 weeks. Lab rotation and individual tutorials as well as the involvement of lecturers from Max Planck institutes guarantee work that is hands-on and research-oriented. The first year of study ends with one written and two oral exams that qualify for the master's thesis. These may be omitted if good or excellent grades have been attained during the first year of study, allowing the student to switch directly over to the 3-year doctorate programme.Early participation in scientific conferences and courses as well as the publication of articles in international scientific journals are also required for the doctoral degree. The doctorate programme enables research stays in laboratories abroad.Social integration also plays an important role. A coordination office helps students at the start of their studies in Göttingen and offers a central contact point during the entire programme.Involved in the interdisciplinary programme of the Göttingen Centre for Molecular Biosciences are the Faculties of Biology and Psychology, Medicine, Chemistry and Agricultural Sciences, the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry and for Experimental Medicine, as well as the German Primate Centre. The degree qualifies graduates for a professional career in molecular and cellular biosciences....
