A masters is the first level of graduate coursework and can be obtained after you receive a bachelor’s degree. Earning a masters usually requires two years of full-time study, which amounts to 36 to 54 semester credits.
Study in molecular sciences can open up many innovative and new scientific fields to pursue, including molecular neuroscience, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, molecular basis of monogenic diseases, molecular virology and immunology, and the molecular basis of complex diseases.
There are more than four thousand higher education organizations in Europe, from leading research institutions to small, teaching-focused universities. Europe itself is not as much different than other continents, reaching from the Arctic Circle to the coast of Africa.

Master in Molecular Science and EngineeringThe Master's programme in Molecular Science and Engineering aims to provide in-depth knowledge of molecular systems and tools for successful careers in industry, academia and society. The programme focuses on the molecular design, characterisation and application of molecular structures and materials, where a wide range of advanced techniques are employed. Aspects of innovation, environmental issues, ethics, safety and societal sustainability are studied, and the programme is preparative for work and research in the many different areas of chemistry and molecular sciences. Programme outlineThe two-year programme consists of choosing from an extensive selection of courses followed by a degree project. One mandatory course is included in the first year; the remaining consist of five conditionally elective courses, 20 recommended courses, and others that are freely chosen. The conditionally elective courses are regarded as particularly important, covering the whole range of molecular science and engineering, of which the student is required to choose at least three. There is considerable freedom and an opportunity to create a personalised curriculum, focusing on individual areas of interest and allowing for a degree that is both fundamentally strong and specialised.Examples of specialisations include the following profiles:... Master in Molecular Biology (M.Sc.)
This intensive programme leads graduates with a bachelor's degree to a Master of Science (M.Sc.) within 18 months. After a 3-year doctorate programme, graduates may acquire either the title Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Dr. rer. nat.. The semester structure has been removed, different subjects are integrated into a uniformly structured range of courses and it is possible to switch into the doctorate programme without a master's thesis, thus shortening the period of study. All courses are held in English. The programme is divided into two parts. During the first year, lectures, tutorials, seminars, methodical internships and individually tutored research projects take place within 36 weeks. Lab rotation and individual tutorials as well as the involvement of lecturers from Max Planck institutes guarantee work that is hands-on and research-oriented. The first year of study ends with one written and two oral exams that qualify for the master's thesis. These may be omitted if good or excellent grades have been attained during the first year of study, allowing the student to switch directly over to the 3-year doctorate programme.Early participation in scientific conferences and courses as well as the publication of articles in international scientific journals are also required for the doctoral degree. The doctorate programme enables research stays in laboratories abroad.Social integration also plays an important role. A coordination office helps students at the start of their studies in Göttingen and offers a central contact point during the entire programme.Involved in the interdisciplinary programme of the Göttingen Centre for Molecular Biosciences are the Faculties of Biology and Psychology, Medicine, Chemistry and Agricultural Sciences, the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry and for Experimental Medicine, as well as the German Primate Centre. The degree qualifies graduates for a professional career in molecular and cellular biosciences.... Master's Programme in Molecular Biology
Present-day molecular biologists now have at their disposal an extensive molecular toolbox capable of taking on and answering most biological problems. If your wish is to enter a master programme that is in the forefront of presenting exciting scientific discoveries, the master programme in Molecular Biology at Umeå University is for you.The master programme in Molecular biology, Umeå, is an advanced 2-year 120 ECTS credit education. It is guaranteed to train in a wide variety of tools necessary for state-of-the-art molecular biology research. Our courses typically include lectures and group discussions as well as seminars, report writing, data production and analysis exercises. To maximize your educational experience, training is purposely held in small class sizes and are lead by internationally distinguished scientists. The majority of the courses place important emphasis on relevant hands-on experimental training in modern molecular techniques. The curriculum includes advanced courses in Molecular biology and Molecular genetics and several optional courses within related disciplines such as Biochemistry, Plant molecular biology, Infection biology and Tumour biology.Another notable feature of this programme is the opportunity to perform an extended phase of intense and strategic theoretical and practical training in an active research laboratory of your own choosing. This training in the form of master thesis projects in molecular biology provides the necessary knowledge to graduate from the programme. Projects are generally conducted in a local research group at Umeå University, such as those found at the departments of Molecular biology, Chemistry or Plant physiology, but other arrangements with research intense organizations like biotech companies are also possible.Umeå University hosts many prominent research groups conducting strategic molecular research of international significance within areas of microbiology, cell biology, chemical biology, genetic model organisms, immunology, systems biology, sensory systems, cancer biology, developmental biology, medical biology and immunology. Importantly, many of our alumni students are continuing on a PhD-programme here or elsewhere. However, Molecular biology is a very broad discipline whereby this education also provides ideal training even for those wishing to pursue careers outside of academia.... [-]
