Its focus is on the organisational models, methods and approaches needed to shape positive social change, sustainable growth and new business models. In the face of the promise of untold growth we are now confronted by a harsh reality: that in the second decade of the 21st century the traditional model of ‘business as usual’ is no longer viable. In applying a range of approaches to designing and prototyping social ventures and models of organisation, the MDes in Social Innovation will equip you with a practice-based approach to embedding innovation in the area of sustainability, community resilience, corporate social responsibility, venture philanthropy and organisational agility. Working with a cross- disciplinary team of professionals, the course will allow you to learn about radical ideas, evolve these ideas and test them in a ‘lived’ organisational environment. The MDes Social Innovation will demonstrate that many of the most successful designs, innovations and innovators have learned to operate across the boundaries between disciplines, sectors, organisations and traditional services. The programme in Digital Media Technology focuses on enabling technologies for digital media systems, including technologies for analysing media, generating interactive media, processing and coding, optimising wired and wireless transfer, and distributing digital 3D contents. Graduates of the DMT programme will be both specialists and innovators that are able to shape future digital media technology. The first year will be similar at both DMT entry point universities KTH and TU Delft with four basic courses on signal processing, computer graphics, web services, and communication networks. The second year will accommodate the technical specialisation. The programme will offer six specialisations: (1) Hypermedia, (2) Media Processing and Communications, (3) Medical Imaging, (4) Media Communications Services, (5) Virtual Environments, (6) Semantic Media. Programme The first year is similar at the two entry points with four basic courses on signal processing, computer graphics, programming web services and internet communication. In addition, some elective courses may be chosen to prepare for a specialisation. An important part of the programme are the Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) courses. The I&E basics course provides an introduction to business and management. The Business Development Lab extends media systems engineering projects by a market survey, a business model generation process, and a venture development exercise. We emphasize user driven innovation and holistic analysis of service, technology, organisation and financial perspectives, as new media technologies are disruptive for existing business models and almost always have a significant impact on the culture and social relations. Society-relevant themes will also be at the core of the summer schools, which will bring students from the different entry points together. Students participating in the DMT track are offered an internship with an industry partner or research centre of the EIT Digital to work on their thesis project. Directly linked to the master thesis is the I&E minor thesis that specifies the requirements, strategy and business plan for the selected thesis project. The I&E thesis allows students to study issues such as user driven digital media innovation and evaluation of user experience social media digital media ecosystem analysis, business models for content providers in the context of next generation networks, role of video communication and collaboration tools in enterprises, business aspects of e-health and telemedicine services. In 2011, an NFTS student won the Verna Fields Award for Best Sound Editing in the student category of the US Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards. This is the ninth time a graduating NFTS student has won this award in the last fourteen years and, together with the demand for new graduates, demonstrates the esteem with which this course is regarded within the film and television industry. TUTORS Head of Post Production is Award-winning Re-Recording Mixer Dean Humphreys, who has worked with many of the world's leading directors, including Roman Polanski, Ridley Scott, Luc Besson, Bernardo Bertolucci and Franco Zeffirelli. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS In the Post Production department, we are looking to assemble a group of students with diverse and varied backgrounds. There is no 'typical' student or perfect candidate who conforms to a mandatory list of qualifications. Applicants are likely to have some industry experience, or training in their chosen field. Your background may be in the arts or other media, you might be looking for a further professional qualification or wish to broaden your knowledge of sound production, taking you to a higher level of work. Application materials must include visual materials (video or stills) with an associated soundtrack that you have constructed; and a sound montage including speech, that you have created and post-produced. APPLY WITH A DVD of no more than twenty minutes running time, which you have recorded and/or track laid and/or mixed. This can be from a longer work. Those who do not have film/video experience: a narrative sequence of photographs, pictures or cartoons, with an associated speech, music and effects soundtrack recorded on audio CD, which demonstrates the way the applicant works creatively with the audio-visual relationship A sound montage made by the applicant on audio CD of approximately 3 minutes running time.
