Master's in International RelationsSince its inauguration in 2004, the Master's in International Relations, offered by the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), has consolidated itself, both in Spain and abroad, as a leading postgraduate institution. It offers a solid academic preparation for students intending to pursue a career in one of the social, political and economic domains of international relations. With the vital support of public institutions and the active involvement of a large group of academic staff from various universities in Barcelona, we have built an attractive postgraduate programme. This combines academic rigour with a practical approach to the most important problems in the international sphere. The programme also strives to maintain a personalised approach to ensure close contact among all members of the IBEI community. Our students remember their year at IBEI, one of intense dedication to the study of international relations, as a period in their lives during which they learn to reflect on the problems of today's world in a more profound, complex and informed manner. In short, as a former student recently told me, it is possible to learn “to see the world in a different way”. What they learned at IBEI will remain with them for the rest of their lives and I hope that it will enrich them both professionally and personally. Regardless of the IBEI teachers' contribution to their learning process, the experience at IBEI is also to a large extent the students' own achievement. The range of academic and geographical backgrounds, together with the bilingual character of the programme, has contributed to discovering diversity and stimulating understanding among all of the Master's students. Our syllabus is designed to offer the capacities and skills you will need to carry out a career in the international sphere. It is an interdisciplinary programme where students gain an insight into politics, law and economics, but where they are also offered the opportunity to specialise in particular sub-fields that interest them. This knowledge will be very useful in your future career, whether that be in the field of public diplomacy, international organizations or the private sector, to mention only a few of the areas in which IBEI graduates are currently working.I invite you to become part of the international IBEI community by applying for the Master 's in International Relations.Jacint Jordana Director of the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis InternacionalsTarget GroupThe Master's in International Relations is a multidisciplinary programme intended to educate future professionals. Its aim is to provide students with a deep understanding of the essential analytical tools and knowledge needed to tackle current problems in the international sphere; it also aims to develop transferable skills that can be applied to any career. The Master's programme presents an innovative proposal to meet the challenges that have arisen from the globalisation of recent years. Our goal is to educate professionals with excellent abilities when it comes to understanding and analysing international phenomena. The modern world has become much more interdependent and it displays forms of government that are structured into different levels within the current complex governance system. Our educational programme takes these changes into consideration, integrating them into its content and providing a wide range of courses. These offer current theories of international relations, the problems of governance on an international scale, managing peace and security in societies in conflict, ethical dilemmas in politics and the international economy, and the way in which international organisations operate. IBEI students come from more than 30 countries around the world. The students' profile is very varied in terms of both origin and prior studies, although the majority have a degree in the humanities or social sciences. Many of them have studied or worked abroad before coming to Barcelona. There is a very international atmosphere, in which the students' different viewpoints favour cross-cultural debates and reflections both during and outside classes. The international aspect of the Master's programme is also reflected in the languages of instruction. Students can choose either the bilingual option in which core courses are available in both Spanish and English, or the English-language option, in which students follow the core courses in English only. Electives are mainly offered in English, however there is also a wide choice of electives that are taught in Spanish. IBEI encourages the practice of two major international languages for professional purposes as an important and distinctive asset. Students also benefit from the offer of complementary language courses to improve their language skills as well as their intercultural competence. The course syllabus presents an innovative structure, stimulating continuous learning, with highly-qualified teachers linked to the three universities that jointly offer the degree, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Universitat de Barcelona and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, as well as to other major international academic institutions. The Master's in International Relations is offered in two different language options. The bilingual (Spanish-English) option, in which students follow aprox. half the compulsory courses in each of the two languages, while they can choose from the whole range of electives in either in Spanish or English. The English-only option, in which all the compulsory courses are taught in English, including the pathway core courses. In this language track, students can also choose elective courses in Spanish, if they wish. The electives are offered to a large extend in English, however some will only be available in Spanish. More detailed information about the courses can be found on the website.... [-]
