Every day, the world is changing; new technologies, conflicts, laws, leaders. Business is not only affected by these changes, but is also essential to the solving problems and unlocking the opportunities they present. In such a world, the Master of International Business is more critical than ever. The MIB degree is uniquely positioned to develop your contextual intelligence by honing the ability to recognize the impact of politics, law, culture, and society on the world of business. Housed within the Institute for Business in the Global Context, the MIB combines concrete global business skills with a nuanced understanding of core international affairs areas including geopolitics, law, negotiations, and economics. Designed like a dual MBA-international affairs degree, the curriculum develops deep competency in international business practices and a nuanced understanding of the global business context. MIB Professional Opportunities One of the defining characteristics that Fletcher students share is the desire to create their own personalized career path. That can be both liberating and daunting, but Fletcher’s Office of Career Services and the Institute for Business in the Global Context offer support to assist in this journey. Students pursuing their MIB degree are interested in a variety of career paths. While many have an interest in a career with a management focus, the sectors and industries vary. Some MIB students would like a private sector career with an international focus. Interests range from political risk analysis to banking in the emerging markets to policy work in an energy company to corporate social responsibility. Many others would like to pursue careers with non-governmental organizations. Some of these students are interested in NGOs with business-related missions, such as microfinance or business development, while others would like to use their management skills in socially-oriented organizations. Still other students plan to work for the government or international organizations like the World Bank or the IMF. This two-year interdisciplinary program allows students to gain traditional business skills as well as the international knowledge necessary for working in a global business environment. The integrated MIB curriculum ensures that students not only understand how companies operate, but also the complex context in which they operate. Core Curriculum All MIB students gain a foundation of skills through a series of required core classes in business, international affairs, and regional studies, offered both in English and in the native language of the region. Electives and Specializations Additionally, students pursue their individual interests through flexible elective classes and two fields of study, one an international business field and the other an international affairs field. Fletcher students may also cross-register at the graduate schools of Tufts and Harvard Universities or pursue a semester-long international exchange program. Graduation Requirements Complete the core curriculum. Complete two fields of study: one in business and one international affairs. Demonstrate proficiency in a second language.
