The programme in Digital Media Technology focuses on enabling technologies for digital media systems, including technologies for analysing media, generating interactive media, processing and coding, optimising wired and wireless transfer, and distributing digital 3D contents. Graduates of the DMT programme will be both specialists and innovators that are able to shape future digital media technology. The first year will be similar at both DMT entry point universities KTH and TU Delft with four basic courses on signal processing, computer graphics, web services, and communication networks. The second year will accommodate the technical specialisation. The programme will offer six specialisations: (1) Hypermedia, (2) Media Processing and Communications, (3) Medical Imaging, (4) Media Communications Services, (5) Virtual Environments, (6) Semantic Media. Programme The first year is similar at the two entry points with four basic courses on signal processing, computer graphics, programming web services and internet communication. In addition, some elective courses may be chosen to prepare for a specialisation. An important part of the programme are the Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) courses. The I&E basics course provides an introduction to business and management. The Business Development Lab extends media systems engineering projects by a market survey, a business model generation process, and a venture development exercise. We emphasize user driven innovation and holistic analysis of service, technology, organisation and financial perspectives, as new media technologies are disruptive for existing business models and almost always have a significant impact on the culture and social relations. Society-relevant themes will also be at the core of the summer schools, which will bring students from the different entry points together. Students participating in the DMT track are offered an internship with an industry partner or research centre of the EIT Digital to work on their thesis project. Directly linked to the master thesis is the I&E minor thesis that specifies the requirements, strategy and business plan for the selected thesis project. The I&E thesis allows students to study issues such as user driven digital media innovation and evaluation of user experience social media digital media ecosystem analysis, business models for content providers in the context of next generation networks, role of video communication and collaboration tools in enterprises, business aspects of e-health and telemedicine services. The first year is offered by the following universities: KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden University of Technology Delft, the Netherlands Specialisations Specialisations are provided in the second year. The Master’s Programme in Nordic Visual Studies and Art Education (NoVA) educates professionals and researchers, to achieve understanding of the best Nordic practices and traditions in art education and visual communication, and give relevant competencies and pedagogical interaction skills for working in cross-cultural and international educational situations and environments. NoVA builds on Nordic expertise, and is open for international students. Nordic perspectives are related to current discussions in the field of international art education. Studying in another Nordic university/university college for one or two semesters is a requirement of the programme. Students are responsible for the costs of living during their study time. Collaborating universities and departments are: Department of Visual Arts Education at Konstfack, University College of Arts, Craft and Design, Sweden; Department of Art, Design and Drama at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science, Norway; Department of Art at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Finland; Department of Communication at Aalborg University, Denmark. Education content NoVA courses are mapped around three concepts: sights, sites, cites. Throughout the NoVA programme, students focus on the significance of “sight” in relation to theories, practices, and networks of visual studies. With the concept of ”site,” students investigate the geo-political and pedagogical dimensions of space, place, the public sphere, and private realms. And, students are provided with opportunities to critically reflect upon and synthesize previous experiences and knowledge as well as generate new knowledge through “citational” practices that draw upon existing social and cultural texts, theories, artworks, and research. Career opportunities Students that graduate from NoVA will have strong intercultural understanding and experiences, and knowledge of teaching practices and theories in different Nordic countries. Learning Outcomes The general learning objectives of Sound in New Media are the following core competences, which the students will develop during their studies: project management skills, design skills, transdisciplinary and teamwork skills, musical competence and creative use of software The studies at Media Lab emphasise interdisciplinary and collaborative work, while individual skills are studied in workshops and through tutored studio work according to a personal study plan. You will also learn the theory related to sound design and music culture.
