Crandall University’s Master of Education is a degree designed for educators who want to enhance their abilities to respond to student needs. This 36 credit hour M.Ed. is offered in two concentrations: Literacy Education and Resource Education. Both concentrations offer applications-based courses, so they equip educators with the tools needed to apply their knowledge. The Literacy Education concentration advances language learning classroom practices for all students, and the Resource Education option focuses on exceptional learners and inclusionary methods. Graduates of the program may serve as teachers, educators, literacy coaches, reading specialists, resource educators, guidance counselors, or researchers. Applicants to the M.Ed. are required to hold a Bachelor of Education degree, or its equivalent, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B). They are also expected to have at least the equivalent of one year of teaching experience. Crandall University has offered Master-level courses since 2006. With the addition of three core courses, students may now earn a fully accredited Master of Education. Advanced Certificate in Literacy Education Crandall University offers graduate-level Education courses towards an Advanced Certificate in Literacy Education. A 30 credit hour package (completing any 5 of the 6 courses) provides teachers who hold a Certificate 5 with the New Brunswick Department of Education the opportunity to advance to a Certificate 6 based on the criteria set by the Office of Teacher Certification with the Department of Education. The Office of Teacher Certification has also confirmed that individuals holding a Certificate 4 will be able to complete any 5 of these 6 courses to advance to a Certificate 5.Advanced Certificate in Literacy Education Some of the graduate-level literacy courses are: ED6106: Addressing the Needs of Struggling Readers in Inclusive Classrooms ED6126: Language and Reading: Development, Processes and Remediation ED6136: Reading in the Content Areas ED6216: Writing Instruction in Inclusive Classrooms ED6316: Cultural Literacy in Teaching and Learning ED6346: Literacy in Technology: Connections for Teaching and Learning The courses are taught in 4 hour classes held weekly on Saturday mornings. Each student is responsible to attend class and complete 16-18 hours of work outside of class each week. Students register on a course by course basis which provides flexibility in fitting individual schedules to course selections and dates. During the summers, Crandall offers a more accelerated delivery comprised of classes held twice a week on Monday and Thursday mornings. Advanced Certificate in Resource Education Crandall University offers graduate-level Education courses towards an Advanced Certificate in Resource Education through our Adult Learner Professional Studies Division. A 30 credit hour package (completing all 7 courses) provides teachers who hold a Certificate 5 with the New Brunswick Department of Education the opportunity to advance to a Certificate 6 based on the criteria set by the Office of Teacher Certification with the Department of Education.
