Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere (Martin Luther King) Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world (Nelson Mandela) The Master Degree in Human Rights and the Ethics of International Cooperation is the result of a teaching collaboration between the following Departments: Law; Letters and Philosophy; Management, Economics and Quantitative Methods, and it is strictly related to the University Research Center for International Cooperation. This Master Degree Program seeks to provide graduates with intellectual tools and practical skills required to function in a multi-faceted and contradictory world of international cooperation. In this global context strong inequalities between rich and poor countries persist, where institutions, the management of resources and living conditions cannot guarantee the most elementary human rights. The program deals with these problematic issues. TEACHING GOALS To obtain a solid multidisciplinary education which enables to understand both the complexity of the institutional and the socio-cultural structures, and the dynamics of their relations with the rest of the world, with a particular focus on Europe To acquire the necessary capacities to program and manage international cooperative operations, aiming, among other things, to healthcare aid, human rights, food security, basic education, professional training, environment protection, the promotion of local cultural heritage and the democratization of the political and social fabric/pattern To learn to plan, autonomously, business and/or aid interventions in poor countries, in order to collaborate and exchange information, ideas, creative potentials To manage plans sponsored by international organizations, public administrations, no-profit organizations and multinationals following the principles of the Corporate Social Responsibility. STUDY PLAN The first year is composed by courses in the following disciplines: law, business and economics, history, anthropology, science and political international relations. Those courses sum up to 60 ECTS. The second year is composed by courses in the following disciplines: ethics and economic policy, migration law, bioethics and history of religions. Moreover, the second year envisages 10 ECTS as free choice. The second term of the second year is kept free for the final dissertation, and for training period or stage abroad. Together with the University Research Center for International Cooperation, Associations, Body and NGOs, some interdisciplinary seminars, follow-up meetings and empirical exercises are offered. JOB OPPORTUNITIES This Degree, strongly characterized by interdisciplinarity and on-the-job experiences, raises eclectic and flexible competences, suitable for both the self-employment in micro-credit and in small cooperative businesses, and the employed, with high responsible functions. In an explanatory way, the DUECI graduate can be occupied as: Expert in human, social and management sciences, at NGOs and international organizations, in order to plan and manage regional, national and European projects, such as Longlife Learning Program, Leonardo, Tempus, Horizon 2020, etc; Training and research expert at public centers (Universities, business associations, trade unions, chambers of commerce) and private ones (banks, associations for cooperation, etc.) Cooperator in international development at both local institutions (city council, provincial and regional institutions), and national, international or NGO Official in international organization (United Nations, European Union, World Bank, FAO, IMF), in national (Ministries), or in local ones (regions, provinces, municipalities o other public authorities). ENROLMENT CRITERIA Having a Bachelor degree or a three-year University Diploma or any other foreign educational qualifications with, at least, 10 ECTS in one of the following disciplines: law, politics, history or historical-geography, economics, language and literature Possessing the basic knowledge of one European Union language, at least Showing, during the individual interview, to have the right capabilities and a strong motivation to follow the Master Degree Program. ENTRY TESTS Individual interview. STAGES AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES The wide relations of staff and the University Research Center for International Cooperation enable to offer a variety of stages, both in Italy and abroad, interesting extra-curricula studying opportunities in Europe, America and Australia.
