Master in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure The Master’s programme in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure provides students with the tools to solve future environmental problems and water issues. The courses in, for example, environmental assessment and water resources engineering are prepatory for careers as environmental engineers. Students will increase their understanding of the properties and functions of water and ecosystems, learn how to assess the local and global environmental impact of human activities, and apply advanced methods, techniques and modelling tools to describe, quantify and solve environmental problems. The scope of the programme is international and interdisciplinary. Programme outlineTo enable students to specialise in sub-disciplines, the programme contains seven course sequences. Each sequence contains three or four courses that are recommended for a certain specialisation, and the student can follow two such sequences in full. These are:1. Water Technology; water systems, hydropower, effects of climate change.2. Environmental Geotechnology; contaminated areas, environmental geology, geotechnical aspects.3. Water and Wastewater Engineering; managing our water resources (drinking water and wastewater).4. Environmental Management and Information; environmental monitoring, measurement techniques.5. In order to meet the challenges of sustainable management of natural resources, there is a need for multi-skilled professionals who are able to combine in-depth knowledge of local and global environmental impact, with expertise on strategies and tools aimed at reducing this impact on nature. This requires, among other aptitudes, knowledge of models and methods for collecting and analysing environmental information; knowledge of the interdependencies between society and environmental problems; and knowledge of the tools necessary for changing human behavior for greater sustainability.Programme outline The Environmental Engineering Nordic Master's programme is a joint, two-year Master's programme offered by the Nordic Five Tech (N5T) – an alliance between the leading Nordic technical universities. The programme offers four tracks in total, one of which is the KTH Environmental Management track which is supplied jointly with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).Since this programme results in a double degree, students should complete their coursework at KTH and DTU respectively. Students who apply to the Master's programme in Environmental Engineering at KTH will start their first year of studies on the Environmental Management track at KTH and continue at DTU to complete their second year of studies, including a degree project. Another option it to start at DTU and complete the first year, then continue the second year of studies at KTH.
