Entry requirements A first or upper second class honours Engineering degree in field relevant to your chosen research topic. Fees 2015/2016 Home/EU: £7,470 International: £16,715 Course Aims The MRes in Engineering allows you to concentrate on an area of Engineering which you have previously explored at undergraduate level, through an in-depth research project. This course can be taken on its own or as a preparation for a PhD. The MRes is a free-standing qualification. Course structure The MRes consists of two semesters. In the first semester you will study four taught modules: one on professional research skills, one on the MATLAB and CAD software which you will use, and two appropriate optional modules from those offered for our range of MScs, including: - Advanced Fluid Dynamics - Advanced Solid Mechanics - Electrical Machines and Drives - High Reliability Embedded Systems - Modelling and Classification of Data - Radio Systems - Robust Control - Understanding Surfaces in Engineering Also in the first semester, you will also select on your research project from a list of projects circulated among the students. This project will take up the second semester and the summer, from February through to the end of September. Teaching and Assessment Methods The taught modules are delivered through a mixture of lectures and tutorials. For your MRes project, you will provide: - Formal proposal and literature review (February) - Presentation and interim report (after Easter) - Draft dissertation (start of August) - Final dissertation (end of August) - Viva (September) You will also be expected to attend supervision meetings throughout your project.
