We collaborate with our industry partners and offer internships in a variety of businesses! You can also study the Master's program in Systems Engineering part time if you already work in a company or you can study single courses (with or without study points) if you are interested in learning more about Systems Engineering and Subsea. This is Systems Engineering Systems Engineering is a recognized method for developing systems in the automotive and oil industry, in computing, networking, communication and R&D. With a Master's Degree in Systems Engineering you will be eligible to participate in and lead the development of large complex products and systems that require involvement of many disciplines. Norwegian Institute for Systems Engineering (NISE) Was established by the joint efforts of Norwegian Center of Expertise-System Engineering (NCE SE) and Buskerud University College (from 2016 University College of Southeast-Norway). NISE is organized as a department within the Faculty of Technology in Kongsberg. NISE’s most important task is to contribute to enhancing the technical collaboration between research institutions and the technology companies in NCE SE. Master in Systems Engineering with Embedded Systems Systems Engineering is a widely recognized method for developing systems in industries such as automotive and oil, computers, network, communication, research and development. What is Systems Engineering Complex industry-projects require the participation from several professions. It is of paramount importance that all participants in such projects are using the same methodology, that they use a common language that everyone understands. Systems Engineering is an area of expertise where knowledge about how to develop complex products in the best way is gathered and developed. Methodology and systems thinking that puts us in position to master the complexity that is required to create good, reliable and safe products that the market is requesting will in the future be of vital importance for modern industrial production. Therefore, we have a desire to increase our capability to create new, advanced products that are within the requirements for functionality, reliability, safety and in the future also a long string of ever more important environmental requirements. What is Embedded Systems Most advanced industrial products today contain an increasing amount of computational power. This development of built-in computational power is what is called Embedded Systems. A common misunderstanding is that data power (computers) only exists in PC's. This is far from true. Computers come in a rich variety of types and sizes, and are often built into modern products to improve and expand the usefulness of the products for the humans that are using them. The complexity also is expanding as we are putting higher demands on the systems. This reality is what we wish to prepare our students for in our master program. A prime example of a product with steady increase in functionality is the automobile. Today we can find 25-30 computers in an ordinary car. The more advanced and expensive cars can have far more. All these computers need to be programmed and linked with the mechanical and electrical systems of the car. The list of functions keeps increasing as new cars are put on the market. Embedded systems is dealing with supplying the computational power that is needed, and ensuring that the equipment works as intended. About the program This program is a 2-year full time program. While USN have other master programs that include part time employment in local industry, this is not a part of the program in Systems Engineering with Embedded Systems. We do however have close cooperation with local industry in the Kongsberg area. In their last semester, our students have the opportunity to do their master thesis in cooperation with our industrial partners. Systems Engineering with Embedded Systems has in-depth courses in Embedded Systems and will also have a minor in Systems Engineering. This means that the students will be enabled to develop hardware and software based applications and understands how these will work in a Systems Engineering context. A unique master This 2-year program is unique, also in international context. Project work is used extensively through the program. This is Maritime Management Norway, as one of the world’s largest, most innovative and knowledge based shipping nations, has one of the most complete maritime business sectors in the world, the so-called Norwegian Maritime Cluster. Why Maritime Management? The Master of Science in Maritime Management program offers two alternative specializations, one technical and one commercial.
