REQUIREMENTS AND ADMISSION PROCEDURES // Preliminary Module Graduates in Industrial Design, Automotive Engineering and related subjects, holders of a postgraduate diploma in Industrial and Transportation Design and candidates who have gained significant professional experience in the field of transportation can access the Preliminary Module. Admission is subject to the assessment of the application, to be submitted by letter of application, curriculum vitae and portfolio. IAAD reserves the right to request the candidates, if necessary, an interview in person or via Skype. // Master Module Access to the Master Module from Preliminary is subject to the attainment of 60 ECTS credits of Preliminary Module. For the attainment of 60 ECTS credits, students will be required to develop a project-work to be presented in the final stage of the Preliminary Module and the overcoming of TOEIC test. Students can customize their curricula with participation in contests, seminars or workshops to collect additional credits necessary for overcoming the Preliminary Module. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Target The master in Smart Buildings and Sustainable Design is intended for graduates in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Architectural and Built Environment studies or Design studies in related fields who wish to explore the built environment to turn economic and environmental constraints into creative design opportunities, as well as suggest techno-functional strategies considering social and energy issues. Contents and structure The first month will be dedicated to introduce the students to the skills of the job, including 3d modeling, digital fabrication, Arduino technology, and principles of environmental strategies. From the second month, and through the next 11 months, the students will work on a challenging thesis project that will be presented to a public audience at the end of the Master. During this phase, a series of activities (theoretical lectures, seminars, design workshops, conferences, construction workshops) will disseminate knowledge and stimulate the students on the topics of Green Energies Design Strategies, Smart Technologies for the Built Environment, Design rating systems and certifications, Big Data, Urban Sharing. Masters in Engineering Design in Turin in Italy. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Target Admission to the Master Course is restricted to graduates from IED or from private schools of similar area and degree holders in fields of the Design area. One may also request to be admitted directly to the second year of the Master course if one is already provided with a diploma or a three years or five years degree in Transportation Design from a public or private institution that is equivalent to University level. Methodology and program The program foresees a first year designed to provide students with the theoretical design tools required for the production of 1:4 scale models that will represent the final projects of the first part of the Master Course. During the second year the students will be expected to perform as if they were in a real working environment, simulating the team work found in a professional design studio equipped with all the most innovative IT tools. At this final stage the Master course will actually operate as an experimental workshop. For every second course year a Style Centre will commission Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin to come up with a project to develop a concept car. The students will have to face up to the challenge and collaborate in carrying out this project, like a real team, handling all the various stages of project development and all the problems that a style centre has to deal with, right up to the production of a 1:1 scale model.
