The programme in Cloud Computing and Services focuses on a broad range of applications like electronic commerce, mobile services, online social networks, peer-to-peer systems and Web services. What is common to all of these applications is that information sources and control are decentralised over the network and multiple data centres and their underlying systems become distributed, reconfigurable and adaptive. All this makes the process of developing distributed software systems significantly more complex than for centralised systems. Cloud Computing and Services will provide students with a system of knowledge both in formal foundations, technological platforms and practical skills in implementing distributed software applications. The programme will also provide an insight into current and future directions of the distributed software development. After completion of the study, students understand and know how to use large distributed systems. On top of this they are also capable of designing and constructing cloud computing systems and services on networking and computing infrastructures. The programme will offer six specialisations: (1) Mobile Services, (2) Cloud and Data Analytics, (3) Cloud Infrastructures, (4) Data Intensive Computing, (5) Distributed Information Management, (6) Distributed Data Processing. Classroom equipment includes interactive digital blackboards, traditional blackboards, overhead projectors, a public address system (wireless microphones and speakers), multimedia desks, and Internet access. In addition to these, the School and its departments provide teachers with other audiovisual resources such as tablet PCs, slide projectors, a television/video, laptops, and video projectors. Our facilities boast 1,500 m2 of teaching laboratories fitted out with state-of-the-art equipment, and 300 m2 dedicated to computer rooms. In addition to the teaching laboratories, 500 m2 of basement space is dedicated to R&D&I laboratories. The ETSIT currently has over 700 students distributed among the various degree courses. The percentage of male and female students is 80% and 20% respectively. Over its 10 years of existence, more than 600 students have graduated (321 in Telecommunications Engineering and 287 in Technical Telecommunications Engineering, specialising in Telematics). According to the PESIT VI report (Socio-Professional Studies on Telecommunications Engineers) of the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers, 100% of current telecommunications engineers and technical telecommunications engineers were employed within a year of completing their studies. There are over 80 teachers in 10 different departments working at the ETSIT. Of these, 80% are Doctors. The employment status of available teaching staff reflects this situation, where 50% of the teaching and research staff are career civil servants, 19.5% have an indefinite employment contract, and 30.5% have a teaching or administrative contract. Some 65% of teaching staff have more than 10 years´ teaching experience and over 70% have at least 6 years´ recognised research work. Along with teaching, research is one of the cornerstones of the University. The majority of ETSIT teachers carry out intense research activity. These teachers form part of different Research Groups related to telematics engineering, electromagnetism applied to telecommunications, signal processing, mobile communications, radio communications and astrophysics.
