Civil Engineering

The benefits of a Masters extend beyond improving your earning potential. They can provide you with personal and professional skills to accelerate your development. They are also an opportunity to differentiate yourself from your peers, many of whom will have similar A-level and undergraduate qualifications.

A discipline of professional engineering, civil engineering has to do with designing, constructing and maintaining manmade structures such as dams, canals and roads. The term “civil” is used to distinguish this field from military engineering.

Czech Republic is in the heart of Europe is a neighbor of Slovakia, Austria, Germany, and Poland. Czech universities offer long-standing reputation and interesting specializations.

The Master’s study Branch Geotechnics follows on the bachelor’s degree of the same name. The knowledge acquired in the bachelor course is further developed in two ways. First it it further develops the fundamentals of study in order to achieve achieve an advanced level in them. Secondly it develops the fundamentals in order to see geotechnical engineering in its complexity, and also proceeds with aspects that assist the graduate’s future employment. The master’s study terminates with a thesis defence on a geotechnical topic and with a comprehensive examination in three geotechnical matters. The acquired knowledge is sufficient to take up a professional work in the upper levels of geotechnical practice. The master study constitutes a platform for a successful, long term individual professional accomplishment. The best graduates may qualify to continue on to Doctoral study. Key Learning Outcomes Knowledge A graduate has a broad knowledge not only of the basic geotechnical disciplines, but also from a number of specialized disciplines that reflect the contemporary state of knowledge in the field and is able to solve complex geotechnical problems. Graduates demonstrate a broad knowledge of theories and methods of the field, but is able to effectively implement activities and findings of other related disciplines. Skills Based on the knowledge of the field of study the graduate is ready to perform a comprehensive solution of the theoretical and practical problems by using the latest knowledge in the field. They are able to apply advanced methods and new practices and attract new original information, which may contribute to the further development of the field Geotechnics. General Competencies Graduates are poised to decide independently and responsibly to address the problem, and flexibly and effectively respond to newly contexts and conditions of realization. In this context, they are able to specify and coordinate the professional activities in compliance with the changing context and resource availability. They are able to present and advocate for their own professional opinions. Graduates are prepared for professional communication in at least one foreign language and are motivated to further develop professional knowledge and skills. Occupational Profiles of Graduates The Branch Geotechnics can be studied in the Czech Republic only on the Faculty of Civil Engineering VŠB-Technical University Ostrava. The branch is accredited for bachelor's, master's and doctoral study. Graduates can obtain authorization in the same field Geotechnics in the Czech Chamber of Licensed Civil Engineers and the Technicians and the Czech Chamber of Architects. Admission Requirements Determined by Dean, may include entrance examination, other formal documents. Graduation Requirement 90 ECTS Credits, Final state examination, Diploma thesis 1.
