Graduates of the program are prepared to pursue careers in a wide variety of fields within finance, including: corporate finance, equities, fixed income, derivatives, asset management, leveraged finance, hedge funds, venture capital, private equity, private banking, financial consulting, public finance, and finance departments of large corporations. The program is created and taught by Freeman Finance faculty who are internationally recognized for their research in corporate finance and investments. Coursework includes core courses in finance and accounting and the ability to take electives within a student's area of interest such as Energy, Investment Banking, Asset Management, or Real Estate. The Tulane MFIN program also offers an Energy Specialization or a Banking and Financial Services Specialization. While the curriculum provides an in depth study of equity analysis, valuation, fixed income analytics, derivatives, and risk management, students are also able to reinforce the technical expertise developed in the classroom through participation in courses that provide real-world experience such as the Darwin Fenner Student Managed Fund, Aaron Selber Jr. course in Alternative Investments and the Freeman Reports Equity Analysis program. The Freeman Career Management Center works with students in the program to develop professional opportunities. Master of Accounting Success in the accounting profession entails more than just accounting expertise. It requires uncompromising ethics, analytical thinking, awareness of cultural nuances, and effective communication. The Tulane Masters of Accounting (MACCT) program prepares students on all these fronts and provides them with a head start to become leaders in the accounting profession. The MACCT program's core courses provide academic rigor in auditing, financial accounting, managerial accounting and taxation. The program's flexible structure gives students the option of adding a concentration in Finance, Energy or Taxation and to complete their coursework over 2 or 3 semesters. Additionally, if the student desires, the MACCT course offerings can enable a student to sit for the CPA exam. We develop analytical thinking skills in our students through experiential learning in all our courses – Socratic discussions, case studies, group projects are all part of the coursework. Ethical issues in accounting are also woven into class discussions. Tulane MACCT program boasts a world-class faculty who are exceptional teachers and active researchers. Our faculty have hands-on industry experience (e.g. investment banking, revenue authority, private tax practice, and expert testimony for litigation) which they integrate in the classroom. A business communications course and assignments in other courses further develop students' written and oral communication skills. The Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) program is designed to provide graduate level education in accounting for individuals seeking rewarding careers in public accounting, industry, and government. To be considered for admission to the graduate phase, students must submit an admissions application, a score from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) and meet established GPA requirements. Courses for graduate credit can be taken after completion of the first four years and final admission to graduate school is attained. For GMAT scores to qualify, they may not be more than five years old. To qualify for admission to the MPA program, applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School of the University and the admission requirements of the Graduate Division of the College of Business. Any applicant who holds a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university will be considered for admission regardless of the undergraduate field of study. An applicant for admission should understand that graduate work is not merely an extension of undergraduate work. Graduate study operates at a significantly higher level of rigor, demands scholarship of a higher order, and places more emphasis on research and student responsibility. Once the admission requirements of the Graduate School have been met, the Admissions Committee will grant admission only to those individuals who demonstrate significant accomplishment and/or high potential for success. The decision of the Admissions Committee is normally based on a combination of the applicant's previous academic record and the applicant's score on the Graduate Admissions Test (GMAT). For consideration, the GMAT score must be no more than five years old. Also, significant business experience may serve as an indicator of an individual's ability to complete the program, thus may be considered by the Committee.
