Master's in Plant Breeding In its report entitled "World Agriculture : towards 2015/2030", the FAO outlines the need for an approximate 60% increase in agricultural production by 2050, in order to meet the nutritional requirements of the world’s human population. This growth will, in part, be built upon an increase in yields, in particular via the genetic improvement of plants. There have been major advances in this field over the last twenty years, as a result of new molecular and cellular biology technologies reaching far beyond the confines of plant transgenics. In this positive context, plant breeding companies and food manufacturing and various non-food manufacturing companies are expressing a growing need for plant breeders who are able to understand and manage increasingly diverse technologies in order to meet more complex and varied objectives. This burgeoning demand is becoming ever more apparent, in the face of a dwindling number of university courses on offer in this field. What is more, the handful of one-year courses specialising in plant breeding do not cover the entire field of activity of a plant breeder in today’s context. Our objectives The Masters programme in Plant Breeding at LaSalle Beauvais is focused on plant improvement and the creation of new plant varieties. In a climate of increasing global demand for both food and non-food agricultural production, and a quest for sustainable growth in agricultural productivity, the Masters programme in Plant Breeding addresses these challenges via plant genetics and improvement. The aim of this programme is to train plant breeders able to grasp and manage the scientific and technical interdisciplinarity between biotechnologies, agronomy, plant biology, genetics, regulatory issues and markets. This programme was designed in partnership with seed companies and the food industry, and constructed with Ghent University, in Belgium, thus combining the hands-on approach of the renowned field training undertaken by LaSalle Beauvais engineers and the excellence of one of Europe’s top universities. Our strengths a more wide-ranging course in plant breeding than most international masters programmes, which focus primarily on the application of biotechnologies to plant breeding ; partnership with Ghent University (Belgium), giving our students access to the latest advances in biotechnology ; a course designed and run in association with seed and plant breeding companies. Science and Environmental Management are characterized by the multiplicity of knowledge and areas to mobilize to resolve satisfactorily the problems they pose. This multidisciplinary approach covers both many aspects of materials science, nature and life, and also for a large share of aspects related to human sciences. GOALS The objective of the specialty SAGE is twofold. This is part of give students a thorough training on biogeochemical processes that govern the quality of aquatic environments and interactions of these environments in regional environments, and secondly, to understand and know the instruments management of water, whether technical procedures for the collection and treatment of water or the main water policies implemented in different regions of the world. Thus, special attention will be given to training multidisciplinary character of a technical point of view (fluid mechanics, chemistry and microbiology), both for students oriented research and professional vocation.
