This programme is designed for applicants with a background in computer science or software engineering who want to expand their knowledge and skills in the development of high-quality software. It offers experience from both academic and industry perspectives. Software development is examined in all stages of its life cycle.

The curriculum is anchored in real-world problems and deals with different software development approaches, requirements management, software modeling and specification, implementation and testing software, and software project management. It offers you opportunities to participate in developing software or a prototype of a product and managing software projects in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.

The teaching is based on the research and industrial experience of the teachers.

After completing the Master’s Degree Programme in Software Development you will have:

have the skills and knowledge needed to produce high-quality software in demanding and comprehensive software projects, acting in different roles knowledge come from different areas of software development: requirements management, software modeling and specification, implementation and testing software, and software project management.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria in the Master's degree programme in Software Develoment consist of two parts: the University of Tampere general eligibility criteria, and programme specific eligibility criteria which specify and add information to the general criteria. Applicants must meet both in order to be considered eligible. General eligibility

To be eligible to apply to a Master's degree programme at UTA, an applicant must have

  1. a completed university level Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the field of the desired Master programme or in a closely related subject,
  2. AND
  3. fluency in English sufficiently advanced for academic studies. For the requirements, please see the section on Language requirements.

Programme specific requirements

Eligible to apply to the Master's degree programme in Software Development is an applicant who has a completed suitable university level Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or in a closely related field including a substantial amount of studies in Computer Science. The previous degree should also include studies in Mathematics.

Applicants with an unfinished Bachelor's degree

The Bachelor's degree or equivalent must be completed well before the programme begins. If the degree is not completed by the end of the application period, an applicant can be accepted to the programme on the condition that s/he sends an officially attested copy of the degree certificate to the University by 31 July 2017. A successful applicant will, in this case, first receive a notification on conditional acceptance and later an official letter of acceptance once the officially attested copy of the degree certificate has reached the University.
