Program Description

Master of Science in Forest and Wood Engineering

Linnaeus University, Faculty of Technology

Department: Faculty of Engineering and Technology

Level: Second Level

Linnæus University has developed a new master programme which opens up the opportunity for a career within the forest and wood industry. The programme is the result of a cooperation between the university and major national organisations and companies.

Forests make up one of the largest and most environmentally-sustainable natural resources in Sweden. The industrial processing of wood is not only vital for the Swedish economy, but is also important in order to reach environmental goals for a sustainable society. The forest and wood industry has previously been characterised by traditional handicraft and cottage industry methods. However, working processes are changing. High-technology equipment and a global market will require highly-trained professionals in the future. If you want to take part in this growing industry, this is the degree programme for you.

You do not necessarily need an engineering degree in forest and wood technology to apply. The programme provides engineers and applicants holding bachelor’s degrees in other subjects with the opportunity to build on their existing expertise.

The programme focuses on wood and forest engineering. You will choose the specific educational focus of your degree prior to beginning the second term of the programme. The programme also introduces you to current research in these areas.

The programme is offered both in campus and distance formats. The distance alternative facilitates the participation of professionals seeking to combine studies and work. The language of tuition is English.

Your future

The programme prepares you for a career as a production leader, product developer, manager, managing director or consultant within the wood processing or the forestry industry. The programme also serves as preparation for a future research career.

After successful completion of studies, students will be awarded the Master of Science (2 year programme) degree.
