The master's programme in Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems (SELECT) offers advanced education in the field of sustainable energy systems for the future. SELECT aims at delivering education for high competency and quality engineering skills in the field, including industrial interaction throughout the programme. Students graduating from the SELECT programme will have gained experience in the following topics:

  • Training in multidisciplinary problem analysis and solving.
  • Advanced team building in a multinational setting, along with stimulating international experience.
  • A novel and multidimensional way of learning involving real and virtual classrooms
  • Close collaboration with industry during thesis work.
  • A unique network of fellow students, SELECT alumni and industry specialists in the field of sustainable energy.

The SELECT master's programme is presently a cooperation between the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden (KTH), Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands (TUE), Technical University of Catalonia in Spain (UPC), Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal (IST), AGH University of Science and Technology in Poland (AGH), and Aalto University in Finland (Aalto). SELECT is also part of the InnoEnergy Sustainable Energy masters programme. It is a two-year Master's programme including compulsory mobility for the students.

SELECT is powered by scholarship opportunities from the EIT KIC InnoEnergy. Students from all over the world are welcome to apply.

Programme Description

Students spend the first two terms at KTH or UPC on courses in sustainable energy conversion, renewable energy and environmental pathways. A project introduced at the start of the year provides advanced training in problem solving and group dynamics for mastering complex energy systems analyses.Further in-depth knowledge is acquired during the second year via individually chosen focus areas plus related thesis work. These focus areas are:

  • Sustainable Biomass Processing , Aalto
  • Polygeneration, KTH
  • Offshore Energy Systems, IST
  • Solar Systems, UPC
  • Innovation in Energy Systems , TU/e
  • Energy Efficiency, PoliTo
  • Sustainable Fuels Economy, AGH

Note! Students with an InnoEnergy scholarship cannot choose Aalto or Polito as a Y2 university!

Each year, a spring seminar brings together first and second year students from all partner universities. The event introduces participants to the cutting-edge research found in the curricula, and trains them in group discussions in an international setting.

During the second year, the knowledge is further deepened in one focus area chose by the student for one term, followed by the thesis work in the final term.

Mobility Scheme and degrees awarded

The mobility schemes will be organized as far as possible in accordance with the preferences of the selected students. The student graduating within the frame of the SELECT programme will receive the degree diplomas from the institutions that have hosted the student, according to the mobility scheme and national legislation.

The degree diplomas are national degree diplomas recognised by the country of each host higher education institution.

Through SELECT, a double degree from two of the partner universities is awarded. SELECT aims at a direct industrial engagement for graduates.
