This course offers advanced insights into social entrepreneurship and social innovation as drivers of not-for-profit, community-oriented enterprises.
The course focuses on how management can contribute to society and the environment in innovative and sustainable ways while also addressing core skills and knowledge critical to the successful pursuit of a career in the ever-expanding social economy, including grant writing, fundraising, volunteer management, social program design and the skills to measure social impact. Students also develop an understanding of the social economy and its economic and political context, and are introduced to ways of thinking systematically about the challenges facing society and developing innovative solutions to address these challenges.
Career options include managing non-government or not-for-profit organisations, working in the field of corporate social responsibility, or in government, particularly in roles that work with community or not-for-profit organisations such as: social and community welfare environment advocacy arts and culture fundraising education international aid and development professional associations and unions.
