This program allows designers to sharpen their professional practice, and further their marketing, business and analytical skills at an advanced level. Graduates of the Master of Design will have enhanced, highly developed capabilities, which will place them at the forefront of their field of design practice. Through the completion of sustained design projects, students are required to demonstrate high-level planning, resourcing, implementation, completion and evaluation, culminating in an expert understanding of the professional design process. The program consists of three units of design studio, taken over three semesters. Through the completion of seven coursework units, students hone their skills in planning, conducting and evaluating innovative design projects; relating technical excellence to conceptual aspirations; business processes relevant to design practice; and contemporary issues relevant to their chosen field of design. Students select one of the following streams for the duration of the degree:

  • industrial design
  • visual communication
  • interior architecture
  • multimedia design
  • multidisciplinary design.

Duration: 1.5 years full-time; 3 years part-time

Fees for 2012: Fees are subject to change annually.

Commonwealth supported place (CSP): Commonwealth supported place not offered for this course.

Domestic fee per 48 credit points: 48 credit points represents a standard full-time course load for a year; $ 24,110 AUD$ 24,110 AUD

From 1 January 2012 all students pay a Student Services and Amenities fee each calendar year.

Entry requirements

Minimum entrance requirements

Applicants should hold an Australian bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution in an art or design field.

Special application requirements

Applications should be accompanied by 10-15 images of recent, original work, clearly numbered with a corresponding list of details attached and a current academic and professional curriculum vitae.
