The Syriac-Antiochene heritage is the backdrop of the theological thinking of the Faculty of Religious and Oriental Sciences. The Faculty aims to develop its research and studies in this area of heritage.
Within this perspective, it is committed to the process of the conservation and the development of the theological heritage of the Syriac language and traditions. This precious Syriac heritage has to be available to researchers.
The Department of Syro-Antiochene Sciences aims to educate researchers in the field of the culture and the civilization of the Syriac language. It is considered as an essential complement to the Faculty of Religious and Oriental Sciences of USEK, which has taken, as a main task, to value the Antiochene heritage. The Syriac language and culture is one of the fundamental components of this heritage
The Department does not ignore the other components of this heritage; this is why it includes within its programs close cultures and civilizations: Greek, Arab and Aramaic.
- Training researchers in the culture and the civilization of the Syriac language
- In-depth study of Syro-Antiochene Churches: history, theology, spirituality, patristics, exegesis
