Education content

The Master’s Degree Programme in Graphic Design allows students to execute demanding design assignments which develop their conceptual and aesthetic design skills. Students acquire methodological skills in design research and develop a responsible view of the effects of visual communication and deepen and broaden their competencies.

The goal of the studies is the enhancement and application of design skills in multidisciplinary productions. The outcome of the work of a graphic designer or a multidisciplinary design team is usually published in mass media or in more targeted media, but it may also be an immaterial concept, service, corporate image or brand.

The two-year Master's degree programme helps students to create contacts with companies and with the surrounding society through project work. The international dimension of the Master’s degree programme takes the form of international lecturers and students and the possibility of going on an exchange period or work placement abroad.
The timetable of the Master’s degree programme has been planned so as to allow its completion in two years. The personal study plan builds on the students’ interests and special skills, and it supports the Master’s thesis. The degree structure provides students with an opportunity to pursue studies towards a minor in the other schools of Aalto University or at other universities in Finland or abroad.
