Master of Accounting

The Master of Accounting (MAcc) is a graduate conversion course designed especially for students who wish to enter the accounting profession but who have limited or no previous experience in accounting.

Master of Accounting Overview

In the Master of Accounting course, you’ll develop your ability to think critically in addition to the essential business and accounting skills potential employers expect in the workplace. You will study a range of subjects including, management and financial accounting, business and corporations law, financial reporting, corporate governance and regulatory processes, marketing management and professional communication.

Upon completion of this course you will:

  • Demonstrate professional skills and knowledge in relation to contemporary accounting issues and related practices
  • Analyse contemporary accounting issues within a range of theories and frameworks
  • Apply strategic management and marketing techniques to a range of business situations
  • Be classified as an ‘accountant’ in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO Code: 2211-11)
  • Be eligible for admission into the professional courses offered by the ACCA, CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA)

An overseas qualification deemed by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR) as being comparable.

English Entry Requirements

You must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following means.

1) An English test score with minimum requirements as:

  • IELTS 6.0 Overall (with not less than 6.0 for Speaking and Writing and 5.5 for Listening and Reading), OR
  • PTE Academic Score of 50 – 57, OR
  • TOEFL (Computer) – 213, TOEFL (Internet) – 80 or equivalent.
  • Kaplan International English – English for Academic Purposes 2 – 65%

2) Proof of completion of secondary education (or higher) in a country in which English is the primary language.

3) Proof of completion of secondary education at an international high school where English was the language of primary instruction.

Credits/Exemptions

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students may be eligible for credit for academic work previously completed and should apply to the School for this to be recognised as an exemption from individual units of study. Students are able to receive exemptions of up to 50% of the course from a relevant postgraduate qualification, and up to 30% of the course from a relevant undergraduate qualification.
