The Master in Space Sciences at the University of Liège is definitely the ideal training to address scientific questions such as:

In order to answer these questions, researchers in space sciences (astrophysics and geophysics) exploit the most performant tools, at the forefront of present technology. These researchers contribute to the development of these instruments with unprecedented performances, in order to pave the way leading to tomorrow's discoveries. The Master in Space Sciences is the portal that gives access to these research activities.
Following the conclusion of Master programme, the graduates are able to use their knowledge and understanding of astrophysics, geophysics, planetology, space techniques, and astroparticle physics to address complex scientific issues, design and build new experiments, and share the results of their work with their colleagues and with a broader audience. In particular, they have acquired the following skills:
- A thorough understanding of geophysical processes that affect the Earth, its atmosphere, its climate and its oceans;
- A thorough understanding of the solar system and the interactions between the Sun and the planets;
- A thorough understanding of stellar physics and physical processes that govern galaxies and the Universe as a whole;
- An in-depth knowledge of the space sector and the problems specific to this field;
- An analytical mind allowing a rigorous scientific approach and mathematical modeling of very diverse complex problems;
- The ability to work independently or as a team;
- An extensive experience in the use of diverse computer tools;
- An excellent knowledge of scientific communication both specialized audience.
The Master in Space Sciences of the University of Liège (ULg) is built on the basis of a long standing tradition of renowned international research in this field in Liège (Belgium).
A strong point of this Master programme is the opportunity given to students to personalize their cursus, both through many optional courses covering a wide range of scientific topics and the Master's thesis that constitutes an excellent introduction to research in space sciences immersed in specialized research units. Traineeship in observatories or internship in private companies or other research institutions are also scheduled in the Master in Space Sciences, either in the framework of individual courses or during the Master's thesis preparation.
The organizers of the Master in Space Sciences are working in tight relation with international institutions such as the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Southern Observatory (ESO). Students can benefit of a dedicated mobility programme (Erasmus), in partnership with European universities proposing a course programme in astrophysics and geophysics. In particular, a joint graduation agreement has been signed with the University of Nice Sofia Antipolis, in France. Privileged contacts with the Centre Spatial de Liège (CSL) and the Faculty of Applied Sciences (ULg) constitute also a plus for this formation, through the development of the technological aspects of projects dedicated to space sciences.
Students in this Master are confronted to various theoretical and practical activities allowing to acquire many skills, including thorough understanding of physical processes that affect the Earth, its atmosphere, its climate and its oceans, the Solar system and the interactions between the Sun and planets, stars, galaxies, astroparticles, cosmology and the Universe. Through these learning activities, students in space sciences in Liège also acquire in-depth knowledge of the space sector, and problems and vocabulary specific to this field, along with extensive experience in the use of diverse computer tools. Such skills are highly valued in fundamental or applied research in renowned international and national institutions or research centers, or in the space industry. In addition, students learn to take over responsibilities in the handling of projects, and to communicate scientific results both for professionnals and for the general public. Several graduates holding a Master in Space Sciences have already been hired as PhD students in many institutions all over Europe.
The Master in Space Sciences can be accessed by students holding a Bachelelor in physics or in engineering (or judged equivalent by the admission jury). Students with a Bachelor in mathematics or chemistry may be required to follow not more than 15 additional credits (physics courses). Students holding a Bachelor in other scientific disciplines may also have access to the Master in Space Sciences provided they follow the equivalent of a complete transition academic year (60 credits) in addition to the Master programme. In any case, candidates for the registration to the Master in Space Sciences are asked to contact the organizers to receive a specific answer about the access conditions related to their previous academic track.
