Master of Political Science - Political Theory
If you are interested in contemporary political debate currently facing many controversies the programme in Political Theory should be your primary choice. The programme in is an advanced programme in Political Science focused on the interdisciplinary study of political ideas, institutions and practices. Programme gathers some of the most prominent scholars in the field.
Students can expect a broad spectrum of theories, methodologies, designed to compete with the highest standards of similar programs at the leading academic institutions. Although the programme is specialized in the history of political ideas, it also offers courses in various areas of specialization in political science: e.g., contemporary political philosophy, political communication, political economy, and comparative politics.
The programme prepares students for further academic and professional careers by introducing them to cutting-edge scholarship across the field and, especially, by paying attention to students individual research foci (individual curriculum) needed for their academic and professional progress.

All exams from the taken courses need to be successfully passed, and a Master thesis of approximately 60 pages or 20,000 words written, with public defence.

Contemporary Theories of Political Community, Models of Political Subjectivation, Biopolitics. For the one elective course students can choose from any master course at the faculty.
Master study programme Political Science – Political Theory is open to:
- Graduates of first level study programmes from all professional study fields who have acquired 240 ECTS can enrol without any additional requirements.
- Graduates of first level study programmes from all other study areas that have gathered 180 ECTS, and have completed a supplementary year in the framework of the programme for upgrading social sciences related knowledge through elective courses, compliant with the agreement of programme coordinator.
- Candidates that have completed a pre-reform four-year higher education professional study programme from all professional study fields can enrol in second level programme without any additional requirements.
- Candidates that have completed a pre-reform 3-year higher education professional study programme can enrol in the Master Study under the conditions defined in item 2.
Enrolment is also open to candidates who have completed equivalent education, defined in items 1. to 4. abroad. They can enroll under the same conditions as candidates who have completed education in Slovenia. Prior to enrolment in Master study programme, the candidates must submit their documentation of education for verification.
Selection criteria in the case of restricted enrolment
Criteria for applicants’ selection in the case of restricted enrolment in Master study programmes comprise:
Grade point average in previous studies – 100 %
Higher education institution recognizes the knowledge, skills, abilities or competences obtained through formal, informal or empirical learning, which corresponds in content and complexity in part or completely with general or course-specific competences defined in individual study programmes as completed study obligation expressed in and evaluated with credit points.
