The Master’s Programme in Molecular Biosciences provides state-of-the art Master´s Level studies in Biochemistry, Genetics, and Microbiology on the Viikki Campus of the University of Helsinki. The Master´s Degree consists of two years of studies, including extensive research-oriented training and a Master’s Thesis, based on the students own research project conducted in a research group. The studies give the students competence for doctoral studies and skills and knowledge that can be applied to a wide range of future careers within and outside of academic research.
The Master’s degree in biochemistry is obtained in one of the following specialization tracks: general biochemistry, health biosciences, and research. The curriculum develops wide expertise in biochemical sciences and in molecular cell biology.
The Master´s degree studies in genetics provide a profound knowledge and understanding of genetic phenomenon and highly developed practical skills to design and conduct genetic and genomic research. The studies offer possibilities to specialize in human genetics, genomics, developmental genetics, genetic bioinformatics or microbial genetics.
During the Master’s degree studies our students specialize in medical microbiology, virology or general microbiology according to their own interests. The studies are performed mostly as practical training in research groups in the field of cell and molecular biology of microbes.
