Justification and Purpose
The Master Degree in International Relations at EEG intends to meet the need of advanced training in International Relations, as it accommodates itself to the requirements of the European Higher Education and in line with the changes resulting from the post-cold war and the 9/11, 2001.
It is thus an eclectic education project, whose main objectives are:
- Offer advanced training on the main trends and dynamics of the contemporary International Relations Theory;
- Provide in-depth knowledge in specific fields (Diplomacy, International and Area Studies, respectively);
- Develop intellectual skills and practices in the field of International Relations, as well as soft skills (analysis, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal soft skills, among others).
In this light, it is a four-semester-long programme which accumulates 120 ECTS. The first year is devoted to coursework, whilst combining six structural compulsory course units in the fields of Political Science and International Relations, and two optional course units within the scope of these two scientific areas, or complementary scientific areas such as Economics, Management or Administrative Sciences. The completion of the programme requires the student to research and prepare an original dissertation, or realise an internship and report.
The Master Programme in International Relations unfolds a unique opportunity for the consolidation and development of performance skills in various organisational contexts, governmental and non-governmental, national and international, and in multiple areas (human rights, co-operation and development, international negotiations, inter alia), thus offering a complete and innovative training.
