Program Description

Master in Information Technologies

Latvia University of Agriculture

The masters programme "Information Technologies" is offered by the Faculty of Information Technologies, that trains specialists as for practical as scientific work in the field of IT. Up-to-date computer rooms with the latest equipment are used for the studies, that are practice-oriented and in close connection to the needs of industry and labor market.

Academic profile

Nowadays, development of all the branches dealing with economic and scientific activities is tightly connected with the use of information technologies, which set additional requirements to the employees. Besides the basic skills of computer literacy, the necessity to carry out complicated research and modeling of business processes, to solve tasks of systemic analysis, as well as to work out an unconventional use of information technologies in the production computer management, biotechnology, medicine, ecology and other fields, become of vital importance. To fulfill these tasks, well prepared specialists – experts of computer networks, programmers, system analysts and other professionals, who are able to adjust to rapid changes in the branch of information technologies, are needed more and more. The programme is oriented towards the following applications of IT in the interdisciplinary trends:

  • computerized production control systems with the aim to educate you for the analysis of production systems and the development and maintaining of control systems by using the specificity of hardware;
  • systems analysis: you will have good theoretical knowledge of software engineering and practical skills to solve the problems related to the designing, maintaining and application of software systems;
  • information technologies in biosystems with the aim to prepare you to be creative and to be able to apply new solutions of information technologies for storing and analyzing biological data.

The study programme is completed with the elaboration and defence of the Master thesis.
