Program Description

Master in Computer Engineering

University of Liège ULG

A master in English

Starting in September, 2013, the first year of the master programme will be given entirely in English, as well as most second-year classes.

Combining theory and practice

The education programme covers hardware and software aspects and combines a strong theoretical base with the active learning of the most recent methods and techniques.

2 masters programmes

One allows you to extend and deepen your knowledge of energetics, the other to develop genuine managerial skills. The first year is common to all. It offers compulsory courses constituting the indispensable knowledge on the field. In the 2nd year, no matter which Masters has been chosen, an end of study work project must be submitted. This can be directed towards a research problem or towards an application developed in collaboration with a business company. Master with Research Focus

In the 30 credits specific to this Research Focus, a wide range of specialised courses in the computer sciences is offered. You can thus develop and extend your knowledge in your preferred fields. The courses offered cover very specific technical fields such as medical imaging, microsystems, expert systems, cryptography, etc.

It is also possible to do an internship within a company or a research centre.

Career opportunities

The computer sciences sector is and will remain a significant source of jobs, whether the Masters taken is with Research Focus or with Professional Focus. Computer science companies (software development, the sale of complete personalised systems, service and consultancy, etc.) are more and more hiring computer science university graduates and companies active in most sectors of the economy (industrial production, banking and insurance sectors, supermarket distribution, telecommunications, transport, etc.) can less and less do without experts in computer science. Many jobs are also available in the information and communication technology industry : IT services in the broader sense, data processing and security, networks and telecommunications, multimedia and medical applications, embedded computing, robotics... Equally numerous possibilities exist in research, public administration and teaching. Computer scientists can also work as freelance consultants.
