- Academic degree: Master (Bologna 2nd cycle degree)
- ECTS: 120
- Duration: 2 curricular years
- Regime: Normal
- Place: Gualtar Campus, Braga
- Main Scientific area: Mathematics
The main purpose of the MSc in Mathematics is to train mathematicians with a solid scientific background in the research areas developed by the Department of Mathematics and Applications (DMA) of the University of Minho
(UM). Being an advanced course in fundamental mathematics, a natural task is to motivate students for a research career, in accordance with their interests. The flexibility of the curricular structure leaves the possibility to concentrate in one of the three main research areas proposed by the DMA, and permit the possibility to chose other themes to complement one's own training.
A second purpose is to offer a complementary formation in Mathematics to graduate students in other scientific areas which contain mathematics in their training, or to other students which may want to enrich their advanced formation studying some mathematics of interest for their professional life. Again, the flexibility of the curricular structure allows for a wide range of possibilities.
The main purpose of the course is to allow progression to a PhD in mathematics or other fundamental sciences, and therefore prepare for an academic career. Msc in Mathematics could also join multidisciplinary teams in different areas where applied mathematics is relevant, such as, for example, medicine, biology, meteorology, engineering, economy and finance.
