The MSc in Sport Rehabilitation seeks to educate students in the management and care of the injured athlete or those returning to physical activity following prolonged illness, underpinned by a detailed understanding of physiological, biomechanical, anatomical and psychosocial principles.

There is currently a high clinical demand for provision of highly skilled, autonomous and analytical therapists specialising within the field of prevention, assessment and management of sports related injuries. This demand is from sportsmen/women, teams and clinicians currently working in the field of amateur and professional sport and this course aims to provide specialists in the field of Sport Rehabilitation to fulfil this demand.

Graduates of the MSc in Sport Rehabilitation will be eligible to join BASRAT the professional body overseeing and regulating the practice of Sport Rehabilitators and Trainers in this country.

This degree is specifically designed for graduates in the areas of the Sports Sciences who wish to change focus and become rehabilitation practitioners.

Programme overview

Teaching and Assessment

Modules are taught through blended learning activities including lectures, practicals, seminars, placements and include one intensive week for Advanced Research Methods.

A wide variety of teaching approaches will be utilised, and students are expected to undertake a significant amount of work beyond the formal contact hours. Students are expected to actively engage in teaching sessions. Attention is given to the formative process that will encourage the development of key practical skills in assessment and critical thinking.

The MSc in Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation uses a wide variety of assessment methodologies aimed at effectively testing the attainment of the identified aims and learning objectives. Specifically, the assessment methods used seek to evaluate knowledge and understanding within the programme as well as testing cognitive, transferable and practical skills development.

This is the first and only course of its kind in the country. This degree is specifically designed for graduates in the areas of the

Interested applicants wishing to take the course on a part-time basis should possess at least a second class batchelor’s degree or equivalent, in an area such as Sport & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science, and Physical Education. However, applications from persons with other degrees will be considered on a case by case basis.
