MSc in Economics and Business Administration - Information Management
IT IN BUSINESS
Information is all around us. It exists in many contexts and makes innovation possible. One of the key challenges of our time is to find out how information can be managed so that it can be used optimally and strategically. That’s where information management comes in.
Information management seeks to be the bridge between businesses and information/IT systems. It is the infrastructure used to collect, manage, preserve, store and deliver information.
While other IT degree programmes are more technically oriented, this programme focuses on management and organisation. Students will learn how IT and information systems can support organisations, what kinds of benefits can be achieved from using these technologies, and how to manage and govern these systems.
AN INTERNATIONAL STUDY ENVIRONMENT
The international nature of this programme makes students well equipped to work in a globalised world. Projects that involve IT and information technology are rarely contained within national borders. Many information systems projects involve international teams, and most Danish companies use English as the company language. Graduates from this programme will already be experienced in intercultural communication, relating to people of different nationalities and working in an international environment.
Students typically find management or IT positions across a spectrum of companies, working in roles such as IT manager/chief information officer or in consulting, in business or as enterprise architects. The managerial side of the degree also prepares students for less obvious career paths such as marketing, social media or project management. There is a high demand for university graduates with IT–management skills, and most students find employment within one year of graduation. The starting salary for these graduates is very high.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s in business administration and economics or a similar field. The programme attracts students who are curious and interested in working with what information systems do. Many business degrees qualify students to apply – check the specific requirements on the programme’s webpage.
“I chose the MSc in Information Management because I wanted to help businesses incorporate IT as much as possible into their daily work so as to gain a competitive advantage. I was driven by the fact that IT can support almost all work processes, so if you use it right you can end up being the best company within your industry. In my current position I have overall responsibility for the ERP programme at GN ReSound, a programme where the main purpose is to implement an IT landscape that can support our global processes and at the same time give us the flexibility needed to adapt.”
