MSc in Economics and Business Administration – Strategy, Organisation and Leadership
KNOWLEDGE, INSIGHT AND BEHAVIOURAL SKILLS
Students on the Strategy, Organisation and Leadership programme will acquire the knowledge, insight and behavioural skills needed to act as managers or employees in organisations facing increasing globalisation, competition, and technological change.
The first semester features three courses: Organisational Theory; Emerging Markets – Institutions and Challenges; and Management Research Methods.
The second semester comprises the following specialising courses. Organisational Change and Leadership aims to provide insight into challenges related to the initiation and implementation of changes. Strategy and Business Development develops the ability to apply central strategic tools for diagnostic purposes and subsequent business development. Entrepreneurship explores factors affecting the formation and growth of new enterprises, and students develop the ability to analyse alternative organisational options and managerial challenges. Human Resource Management and Development provides fundamental theoretical and practical insights into and an understanding of the field of human resource management, the dynamic interplay between people, jobs and organisations.
In the third semester, students can choose courses in their areas of interest. These can be taken at Aarhus University, at a partner university outside Denmark or at the AU Summer University. Students can also participate in internship programmes in Denmark or abroad.
The fourth semester is devoted to the final thesis, where students have the opportunity to concentrate on and specialise in a specific field of interest.
The programme provides the competencies needed to perform successfully in positions that require the ability to integrate technological, organisational and human development processes. Graduates will be able to perform a wide variety of functions in private firms and public organisations, for example as junior consultants in international management consultancy firms, as trainees in large corporations, or as management assistants. Some have also continued their studies as PhD scholars.
“I chose Strategy, Organisation and Leadership because I knew that I wanted to work with developing people. Working as a managing consultant at Mercuri Urval, I work with both recruitment and assessment of people. I learned the basic tools at AU, and the SOL programme offered me a broad spectrum of knowledge within strategy and human resources, as well as an invaluable network.”
