Within the field of Applied Sport Psychology, there is an increasing demand for professional accreditation through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), and/or the British Psychological Society (BPS) chartered status. This vocationally oriented demand is apparent within job profile details for positions within the employment sector that are requiring either BASES accreditation and/or BPS chartered status.
With this in mind, the MSc / PG Diploma / PG Certificate programme will provide a qualification aimed specifically at enhancing students’ knowledge base and vocationally essential applied skills. The programme enables those wishing to pursue a career in Sport Psychology to be optimally prepared for a further two or three-year postgraduate supervised training (named Supervised Experience within BASES or Stage 2 training within the BPS). This supervised training, if successfully completed, can result in professional qualifications i.e. BASES accreditation or BPS chartered status.
All modules have a credit value of 20, except for the research project which has a credit value of 60. All modules are assessed by a variety of both written and oral forms of assessment. In order to qualify for the Certificate, students will be required to achieve 60 credits and for the Diploma 120 credits. For the degree of Master of Science, students will be required to achieve 180 credits, 60 of which will be the Research project.
The module aims to provide students with the requisite knowledge and skills to plan, design and conduct an original high quality research study independently and communicate the findings to others.
