Would you like to broaden your views on science or mathematics, share your knowledge with others, and make your science more visible to society at large? Then the Master’s programme Science Education and Communication may be the right choice.
This two-year programme is your gateway to diverse careers:
- teacher in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science or astronomy;
- designer of educational websites or science museum exhibits;
- science education researcher and developer.
Teaching or research
The Master’s programme Science Education and Communication focuses on three core areas of study:
- science and mathematics;
- professional practice in science and mathematics education and communication;
- research and development in science and mathematics education and communication.
These components are offered in a single broad study programme, which can be tailored to your individual interests. At the beginning of this programme you make a choice: do you aim for a teaching certificate, of do you prefer a career in research & development and whether you would like to carry out your research project in science or in science education.
Already a Master?
If you already have a MSc degree in Science or Mathematics, you are eligible for admission to the one-year Educational Master’s programme Leraar voorbereidend hoger onderwijs (in Dutch), which also leads to a teaching certificate.
International teaching career?

After completion of the teaching track, you are qualified to start as a beginning teacher. You have developed important basic skills, in line with the requirements of professional practice. This Master's programme opens the way to other functions in the educational sector as well. The research skills developed in this programme prepare you for a career as a science education researcher and developer.
