- Academic degree: Master (2nd cycle)
- ECTS: 120
- Duration: 2 academic years
- Regime: Normal
- Local: Campus de Azurém, Guimarães
- Main scientific area: Polymer Engineering & Science
Course objectives: MPTP aims at providing updated technical-scientific knowledge about polymer properties, characterization and manufacturing processes to those professionals involved in the selection, characterization, processing, product development, equipment design, or utilization of polymeric materials and composites. Since the prospective candidates to this course are typically working professionals, teaching is done using e-learning techniques in order to minimize their physical presence at the University of Minho.
Curricular structure: all Course Units (UCs) are offered as options, i.e., the usual sequence of course units of post-graduate courses does not apply. The number of UCs on offer is greater than that required to obtain the credits corresponding to the teaching component of the Masters. This organization enables the student to define the training path that he/she considers most appropriate to his/her education needs.
Working of the UCs: The contents of each UC are periodically and progressively uploaded in a portal that can be accessed via login and password (made available upon registration in the course). The material, in Portuguese or in English, may include slides, texts, videos, scientific papers, book chapters, lists of solved problems, etc. There is no official schedule; the student defines autonomously his study agenda. In various UCs, the teaching staff may organize presential sessions for problem solving, lab demos, tutorials, or even lecturing of specific topics.
Equivalence to the teaching part and Specialized Teaching Courses: approval in the teaching component of the Masters (75 ECTS) offers a diploma in Specialization in Polymer Properties and Technology. The individual UCs of MPTP can also be taken in the form of Specialized Teaching Courses. This solution may be preferred by those professionals with little time to follow successfully the MPTP. The progressive buildup of credits in this way can equally lead to obtaining the Specialization Diploma.
